Lets be honest. If Tuvix had been the only person marooned on the Resolutions planet, would anyone have gone back for him? Would Kim have been a little bitch crying about how the ship is bullshit without Tuvix, and would any of them even considered for a second getting within 12 parsecs of a Vidiian mobile abattoir convoy?
And to the guy who said Janeway would throw Tuvix out of an airlock; Keep dreaming. :-) We would have been stuck with him.
There was an issue with replicator use being limited due to energy shortages - they couldn't just go to a Starfleet starbase and fuel up. There was a lot of talk of replicator rations and Janeway having to seriously restrict her coffee intake. Cooking their own food saved energy. Kes in the early years was in charge of growing fresh produce in the hydroponics bay, and they occasionally were seen gathering produce on planets too. They unfortunately couldn't always get food that actually tasted good though, and it seems like Neelix's cooking was awful, or at least his Talaxian palate didn't suit anybody else besides him.

Then we can thank our lucky stars that Kathy made the hard choice.![]()
The only reason they are all so pissy about Neelix's food is they are spoiled 24th century brats who have been able to precisely design every single meal they ever ate, .
JANEWAY: Aren't there two other lives to consider here? What about Tuvok and Neelix? Two voices that we can't hear right now. As Captain, I must be their voice, and I believe they would want to live.
TUVIX: But they are living in a way, inside me.

If he's so sure they are living inside him why doesn't he believe HE will be living inside them once they are separated?
Neelix's bad cooking is a common gag at least in the first couple of seasons.
I recently rewatched an episode where Neelix made Plomex soup for Tuvok, but decided it was too bland so he added a lot of peppers to it. Tuvok didn't like it but Neelix ate it and seemed to love it.
I think in part Neelix's bad cooking is because he had limited and not always the best ingredients to work with, but I think in part it's just that his idea of how things should taste were pretty different from the crew's.
