What if they killed someone off?

I keep thinking Nimoy's Spock will die... again.

I hope not. It will cast a depressing pall over the entire film which would seem to contradict Abrams' efforts to revitalize Star Trek. We know Nimoy's Spock is getting up there in age, we don't have to actually see him die (again).

Would we be upset if they killed off like Chekov or Sulu during the movie?

Not sure how you could have a movie that tells of the coming together of the seven, then kill one off.
Some time back (have no idea how to hunt for the link, it was that long ago) Abrams did hint strongly in an interview that a "recognizable" character dies. In a thread about this all those weeks ago, posters brought up Sulu and Chekov as possibilities. But old Spock would seem to be a better choice. Or Pike if his history as we know it is rewritten. Heck, it could be Kirk's parents or brother, even.
Of course , Chekov could be killed off and replaced in sequels by a CGI of Lt. Arex. Cool! ;)

I think the character of George Kirk will be killed off (What other reason would there be to go through the effort to create/focus on him in the movie?)

With him being the first officer of the USS Kelvin, it would make a good dramatic point to have him killed off while J.T.Kirk is still a boy.

It would give a good explanation as to Kirk wanted to join Starfleet (and his drive/determination) - To honor and live up to his fathers memory.

If it's not the obvious old Spock, then maybe it's Dr. Piper? Or maybe even Pike's "Number One." Either one of those could be considered a "recognizable" character and be killed off without violating any canon.

How about a twist. Sulu or Chekov is killed but since they are refered to only by their last names, we don't realize until the end that they aren't Hikaru or Pavel, but instead a relative of theirs. Hikaru or Pavel arrive at the end of the film just in time for the sequel.

Why do I have a huge fear of "Old Spock" somehow MERGING with "Young Spock" before the film is over? <shudder>

I believe the correct term is "melding."

Unless you meant "pinching." Then I'd agree. I've never seen Vulcans pinch each other. That'd make me squirm a little.

I think a mild meld scene between the two could be very well done. If by "merging" you meant mind meld, what exactly about the two Spocks mind melding makes you fearful?
