What if they just don't tell us?

What if they just set it between Enterprise and TOS? I definitely wanted to see the Romulan War and it wouldn't necessarily be in either timeline.

Hell they could do this with an "in-between" series. Set it 2320s; after Kirk, pre-Picard, and don't tell us. Fill in an era we know next to nothing about.

Not spelling out the year could be interesting. Eventually (universe and year) TPTB are going to "give it away," a reference will be included, if they talk about something that simply couldn't have been in the prime/alternate universe that will seal the deal.

"Hey, remember when Earth was destroyed in 2206?"

It's been mentioned before that Trek is unique in keeping an ongoing continuity for so long. Hardly any other franchise does this. The new Battlestar Galactica was (thankfully) not in continuity with the original show. The Godzilla franchise has been rebooted at least three or four times, with the new continuities only accepting the first movie as canonical and ignoring everything else. Superman Returns was a loose sequel to Superman: The Movie and Superman II, and completely ignored III and IV. And then Man of Steel came along and brushed them all aside. The new Star Wars trilogy scraps the official Expanded Universe that had been in place for the last twenty years or so. And how many times are Batman and Spider-man going to be completely rebooted?

I think it's really weird that Trek fans keep insisting that anything new must completely conform to all that came before, as if it's Holy Writ or something.

The producers and studios who hold the rights to make this stuff, not to mention the hundreds of millions of dollars to back it all up, can do whatever they please. I just hope they will create a high-quality show with good writing, engaging drama, and compelling characters.

And as we saw with Enterprise, the fan base and the general audience can just walk away from a show where TPTB "do whatever they please."

Heinlein-esque in devotion to and insistence on Timeline and Continuity! ;)

How about:

3 Casts
Run the Gamut, from pre-"Enterprise" timeline to a Post-"TNG"
All Storylines and References

Star Trek: Omniverse

That'll make the fans happy!

And, only $10 Million an episode.

Ok, so CBS Ultra, or whateverthef*ck will have to charge, like $1000 a month...

Not saying anything has us all talking about it ad nauseum and ensuring that this stuff remains as topical as it can be. There's no real incentive to say anything, every incentive for them to stay schtum and keep us guessing. I expect we'll be able deduce a few things when eventually a trailer comes around to stoke the flames of our interest.

LOVE when someone brings the Yiddish! :techman:

Plus, you are absolutely correct, except for the "nauseum"! I think it is fun to speculate and scrutinize the minutia and subspace crumbs they leave us!

Not to mention that TPTB wouldn't want it all to end with just this new series. They'll think long and want there to be multiple opportunities after this series ends.
