What if theres Another Earth?

steveda19

Lieutenant Commander
Can there be a planet like earth 2 times bigger than our home planet earth with 48 hour a day 360 days in a year? I wonder about this.

Yes, there could. Is there another Earth? nah. A planet 2x bigger with 48 hour days? A good chance considering all the possible planets out there.

Finding an Earth like planet would be an amazing discovery. Then we would just have to find a way to get to that planet so we can drill for oil and dump our garbage.

Why not?
Scientists have found plenty of other planets so it doesn't sound that unrealistic.
Why specifically double the size?

Can there be another earth like planet? Certainly. We know earth exists, so nothing in the laws of physics prevents it.

Is there? Who knows. I would say it is very likely given the large numbers involved.

It's certainly possible an Earth-like planet might exist, but whether it would have an atmosphere we could breathe freely might be another matter.

Why specifically double the size?

Our world can hold about 15 billion. I see why not a world with 30 billion people.

Doubling the radius of a sphere actually means you get 4 times the surface area.

I'm still not sure why it matters that another planet might be able to house more people.

Don't listen to the nah sayers. For being Star Trek fans that has a base of exploring the unknown they sure try to keep everyone from even thinking about the reality of another Earth like planet to leave Earth and then colonize.

Steveda, yes the possibility of planet that describe is very likely. We just haven't found it yet. Just like they said that the planet was flat and you would fall off the end of the planet if you came to it's edge was a lie, so to are those who say that a second Earth not existing is also a lie.

However, it is not a lie that there is a man-made plague on the second Earth that kills everyone but the children.

Erm... wouldn't you just need more less hostile land mass for that? Imagine what the sahara desert area could hold or contribute if it were fertile? I think you could easily double the current population if so.

Just because a planet might be a 2x Earth doesn't necessarily mean it's going to have enough natural resources to sustain a larger population, or even the same as our own.

The early hominids on the second Earth will not be stooped over since the underground tunnels will be bigger, too.

Another Earth planet might be over 100,000 light years away. For those who watched Enterprise captain archer found another earth like ours. But it had no humans or aliens. Thats when they started colonizing humans to other planets. Its gonna take a lot of intelligence to build a star ship. Create to control gravity and invent warp drive. Remember the first eppisode of enterprise Captain Archer disobeyed orders and took the test ship into space?

Another Earth in Enterprise? I can't even tell if that refers to North Star or Twilight. Or Terra Nova. But all two had aliens and/or humans, so perhaps not.

The numbers of potential planets we are dealing with are so large as to be almost uncomprehenisble.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Deep_Field

The hubble space telescope took this image over ten consecutive days, Which ammounted to about 1 24th millionth of the sky. And the image contains some 3000 galaxies or what about the Hubble Ultra Deep Field

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Ultra-Deep_Field

some 10 000 galaxies or if you want the Hubble eXtreme Deep Field which adds another 5500 galaxies to only a small part of the Hubble Deep Field

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_eXtreme_Deep_Field

and remember we are still talking only millionths of the total sky being imaged. And we haven't even got to the humber of stars within each galaxy yet.

For me, there is no if. When there is one Earth-like planet, there is another. I believe that extraterrestrials face the same challenges that we do on a daily basis. Will we ever meet them? That's the if. Right now, the nations of the world are stepping back from manned exploration and are putting their money into unmmaned exploration. I think the first interstellar vehicle, if it comes to fruition, will be a multi-national probe.

Not to mention for environmentalist to get all up in arms for.

I don't think they could take it if another planet were to be ruined by human hands.

I think that there would be pitchforks and molotov cocktails, which would be a shame, since I really hate those sorts of things. But I'm going off on a tangent again, aren't I?

But yeah, I have no idea if an Earth-like planet could be twice as big, but if it were to be discovered, and hopefully uninhabited, it would be a huge incentive outer space manned missions. I believe that the gravity would be higher than Earth, since gravity is determined by the size of the planetary object.

That wasn't the first episode.

I remember he was talking about possible court martial because he disobey orders and took the test space craft it went pass saturn in a minute and came back to earth. We just don't have that technology yet.
