What if the Tolasians were lying and are making Pike suffer??

So from their POV Pike (or at-least humans) is responsible for their eventual extinction, they later offer to help him after his accident. But what if they were lying? What if they want him back to make him suffer for dooming them? Hell, maybe they're responsible for his accident is the first place by putting false images in front of him when he could've otherwise prevented it.

Thoughts?

Spock knows. He wouldn't have risked everything if he wasnt certain.
I don't think Pike has that much to lose anyway. Probably cant feel that much anyway. I suppose they could just you know make him feel intense thirst OK no they can't do that. Maybe intense fire but he can't feel that.

I think they're just going to have Pike live his pretend life with Vina with the pretend horses and pretend children. On occasion Vina can pretend to be an Orion slave girl.

Actually why can't the Federation help the Talosians? Surely they could drop off supplies or something to rebuild the surface world. What did they want Pike and Vina to do originally.? Was it to create a slave race to rebuild the world while the Talosians lived in the fantasy world. Who was going to make baby Talosians? Would Pike and Vina raise baby Talosians as well as their own slave children or was the idea the Talosians would get off their butts and stop playing computer games I mean retreating into fantasy once Pike and Vina had built houses on the surface?

Mutual co-operation was brought up by Pike but the Talosians shot him down saying they would destroy themselves once they learned their power of illusion (or something along those lines).

The Talosians allowed the Enterprise to leave in 2253 and again in 2267, so we know they can't be all bad. They could have used the right illusions to get their captive workforce after all, if they were ruthless enough.

The real question is, were the Talosians prepared to keep Pike fed, washed, and dressed, and were they really up to the task of maintaining his sanitation unit (he's got to have a toilet in there), as well as servicing the chair in general? He needs 24 hour care.

And that's not to mention compatibility issues. You can't plug your American cell phone charger into a European wall outlet, but we assume without a thought that wizened little aliens in a far solar system can recharge Pike's chair? I'd be nervous if I were Pike being wheeled to the Transporter Room. How many beeps for "Are you sure we thought of everything?"

No. The real question is did the Talosians actually ever let Pike go? <--- this could explain all the visual continuity errors in current Kurtzman Trek... ;)

For all we know, the Talosians were using their brainypower on the entire crew and they imagined all their experiences and are still living in their cell being zoo specimens. But that's too much in the opposite direction.

They seemed to be keen to. Of course, most aquarium owners are up to the task of taking care of their saltwater fish and I'm pretty sure humans are a little more complex than a Damselfish or Tang (the marine fish, not a flask of that powdered orange-flavored drink - that you don't snort - floating up top...)

:)

I'd reckon Spock beamed over the schematics, or at least the 1-800 number for Ikea's chair (called "DALEK", of course...)

The Talosians weren't malicious, there were simply trying to prevent their extinction. Even Pike says they are too intelligent to kill for no reason. They certainly aren't going to torture for no reason. Also they didn't blame humans for their extinction, They realized that humans simply weren't suitable for the purpose and no one else would be either so that meant they would eventually have to die out.

I also always thought it was implied that the Talosians wanted Pike to be there too. I interpreted that as the Talosians being able to live through Pike and Vina and their memories and their future lives. In a way it was the mutual cooperation Pike had offered originally.

On the mecessity of being Pike's caretakers, at first I was thinking those tasks could be automated with machines and computers. But the Talosians had forgotten how to fix the technology left by their ancestors. Come to think of it, it's a wonder their surveillance system and elevator are still up and running. So they probably wouldn't have been able to come up with automated caretaking stuff.
