What if the Enterprise were thrown into the Delta Quadrant?

I'm currently writing a fanfic on how the Enterprise would handle being in the Delta Quadrant, replacing Voyager seasons 4-7.

Given the situation, alone in the Delta Quadrant, Borg all around and 8472 as well, how do you think Picard and crew would've handled things?

The only thing I really want to keep is rescuing Annika Hansen, but other than that, everything else is up for grabs.

I'm so far going with the thought that Picard would be against any alliance with the Borg, Riker would likely favor it for practical reasons, but still recognize they cannot be trusted.

Picard may attempt to bargain with the Borg to send them to the Alpha Quadrant in exchange for weaponized nanites, but Troi and Crusher would counsel him against it as genocide, which, given First Contact, Picard might go with, given his conversation with Lilly.

How do you think they'd resolve the Scorpion issue with 8472?

And thereafter?

Well here are my thoughts....

Picard - He is throughly disallusioned when he discoveres that the Borg still exist after he killed the Queen in "First Contact." As a result he becomes a stony-eyed opportunist who will stop at nothing to achieve his two goals - getting home and destroying the Borg - and it takes much more than a Moby Dick reference to change his mind this time. He is very distrustful of Seven and ultimately sees her as a means to an end in his quest against the Collective.
Seven of Nine - She is equally distrustful of Picard. As a result she has no desire to reclaim her humanity. She constantly tries to sabotage Picard's actions against the Borg from behind the scenes, while always presenting a facade of cooperativeness and eagerness for her humanity. Her ultimate goal is to rejoin the Collective, and if it means the assimilation of the Enterprise crew, so be it.
Riker - He is a realist about their situation but still tries his best to retain his ideals. His ultimate goal is to return to the Alpha Quadrant. He is willing to bend Starfleet regulations and Federation law toward that end, as long as the letter of law is not actually broken.
Data - He is the voice of Federation ideals among the senior staff. He basically stays the same as he was on TNG, innocent and unassuming, though maybe a little more human-like.
Worf - He becomes the ultra-badass. Whenever Picard needs something done right and right now, it's to Worf that he turns. I'm not saying he becomes a stone-cold killer or a thug, just that the reins are finally taken off of his Klingon-ness. Something interesting would be another trip to the Klingon afterlife. Whereas VOY had Torres visit Gre'Thor, Worf would visit Sto-vo-kor and meet his father.
LaForge - You could just transfer all of Harry Kim's dialogue to him and there really wouldn't be that much of a difference. Seriously though, circumstances force him to become a work-aholic. The ship is constantly in need of repairs and he needs to sacrifice everything else in his life just to keep things running. As a result, in his few off hours, he retreats to the holodeck and basically becomes Barclay. It's through these holodeck adventures that the comic relief comes into the picture.
Crusher - She is throughly disgusted with what Picard has become. She wants to talk some reason into him, but often feels the attempt would be pointless as most of the rest of the senior staff either agree with Picard or are indifferent. When push comes to shove, however, she'll either take Picard on alone or with Data in support. In such instances, Picard listens to her because of his feelings for her. Also, please give this woman some romance with some Delta Quadrant inhabitants.
Troi - She is not a main character, as she was not on the ship when it was sucked into the Delta Quadrant and so remained in the Alpha Quadrant. The massive changes in the others can be assumed to be because they no longer have a counselor to help them through this new situation. Maybe Riker's goal of getting home could be because of his desire to be reunited with her.

If it had been, say the Enterprise D instead of the E...they might not have been so well equipped to defend themselves (somehow I think of the E as a bity more militarized)...but with their families with them (abet in a *very* dangerous area of space) and the vast dedicated science resources of a Galaxy Class - plus the space & luxuries of that class - they might have been is less a hurry to get home, and more willing to take the tame to explore more...

Plus, it's not like a Galaxy class is exactly *helpless*...

Like everything, the direction the characters take and story would take depend almost completely on how you decide to write them - for example the Stargate writers, Star Trek writers and Galactica writers would all have different takes on any given concept and develop it in vastly different ways.

So really the ramifications of the Enterprise-D being in the Delta Quadrant in place of Voyager depend on you really - it could be pretty much achieved by essentially rewriting current episodes and putting everyone's dialog in their counterparts' mouth, or it could be achieved COMPLETELY differently if you understand what I'm saying.

That said, I do enjoy the Picard/Ahab angle - his becoming nigh on obsessed with destroying the Borg. But I would hasten to add not TOO obsessed since Picard will never forget the welfare of his crew for long, even if he verges into becoming very single-minded for short periods.

And I know it has been said many times by many people, but a little struggling for supplies, struggling to repair the ship etc is always nice....

well, riker, crusher, and geordi would have been killed in caretaker, wouldn't they? i'm not sure that flying cristmas tree enterprise would have survived the displacement wave, voyager is the far sturdier ship. it's also faster and smaller, a crew of 1,000+ is more difficult to handle on an adventure like this than 150. it's more difficult to replenish the resources of an enterprise, and to fix it. it would be a more worthwile target for enemies of all sorts, it's better armed than voyager, but this doesn't help against fleets. eventually, if troi had survived the pilot, i hope the encounter with suspiria or 8472 will finish her, burn up her ganglia or so. worf would be busy brawling with the hirogen.

Definitely, I'd love to see her character interact with unknown species. It would be really interesting with 8472, but I can't imagine it being much different than it was with Kes...but Kes is so blah.

That's just not recognisable as Picard. Being in the Delta Quadrant wouldn't change him that much. It's the same mistake the movies made - fundamentally altering the character to fit the conventions of the Hollywood action blockbuster.

Well, if it is the pre S5 TNG and the D goes on this little journey (which would be awesome IMO)...

Meanwhile, back home, the Romulans would take over Vulcan. The Klingon Empire would be allied with Romulus. Scotty would remain trapped on the Dyson sphere. Ro Laren would be stuck in prison or go back after her mission because no captain is as tolerant and fatherly as S5 Picard combined with Guinan. And, Lore's Borg would have a good 'ol time doing whatever the plan was again.

Oh and all of humanity might vanish from existence due to the soul eater aliens. Spacetime may collapse or something because Data would be unable to lose his head. Hmm....

^No. Until Voyager, and apparently the Equinox, the caretaker always sent back the ships he "zapped" to the array. So that reasoning would be moot. One should assume the Enterprise got lost when Voyager did, early in 2371. But that would mean the Enterprise wouldn't be there to stop Soran, the Borg Queen, Ru'afo. The events of Nemesis might still happen if they got home when the Voyager would have...

Let me clarify: After First Contact and the Enterprise is repaired from their Borg conflict, the Enterprise E is thrown into the Delta Quadrant in late 2373. Voyager is removed and put back to the Delta Quadrant, and the Enterprise E must then face the Borg and 8472. How would you think the crew would react in this situation?

Picard and his crew were working on an anti-Borg weapon when they found Hugh and were going to infect him. Picard let him go without killing Hugh, so I'm inclined to believe he would take Seven back also into the fold, but I was wondering how that would come about, and how she would fit in on the Enterprise if that were to occur.

Would Data become a mentor to her? Picard a father figure? And the rest of the crew? (there is no Worf on the ship - he's at DS9).

You've heard other people's thoughts, JJohnson, what is your own take on the situation?

My take on the crew's initial reactions to being put into the Scorpion situation:
*Picard - would really like to use weaponized nanites on the Borg once they're discovered, but Troi and Crusher counsel him otherwise against a genocide. Wants nothing to do with the Borg, and would rather go it alone to the alpha quadrant rather than accept the Borg's help.
*Riker - Wants little to do with the Borg, but would rather team up when it's mutually beneficial and then leave at maximum warp.
*Troi - is worried Picard might use his experience with the Borg to justify rash action, and would advise caution to him
*Crusher - she would have the staff and ability to come up with a weaponized nanite to combat 8472, but she'd be dead-set against giving it to the Borg
*La Forge - would be more concerned with getting the ship home in one piece without relying on starbases for the 40+ year journey.
*Data - looks at it as an opportunity to explore a side of the galaxy not explored by Federation vessels

As to the overall situation of having Annika Hansen during the course of the altered timeline:
*Picard - after resolving Scorpion, I can see him becoming a father figure to Annika Hansen, after seeing her re-assert her humanity, ordering Crusher to remove the implants. He would, however, force her to use her human name, and wear a uniform as soon as possible.
*Riker - wouldn't trust her, considering she's a Borg, but seeing how he has become friends with Data, he could come to respect her experience and knowledge.
*Troi - would counsel Annika to explore her humanity and get in touch with her feelings, and would help her get in touch with her own family history.
*Data - would be a sort of mentor to her regarding interacting with humans and social conventions, helping her become much less brash and Borg-like in her mannerisms
*La Forge - would accept her help, but likely only after she develops some social skills. He doesn't take too kindly to strangers telling him how to run his engineering section (Relics anyone?).

I can see some lingering distrust, and especially if the Enterprise hits upon the Raven, but I can see her having better role models in the Enterprise crew than in Voyager, with Data, Troi, and Picard to guide her.

I think the E-D would have fared much better on certain fronts. I think the Galaxy Class is to the Intrepid Class as the Intrepid Class is to the Nova Class. Remember the Galaxy Class was built for long-term deep-space exploration, capable of sustaining itself for decades without help. It was named "Galaxy" Class to suggest a ship capable of exploring the entire galaxy by itself - that's a bit much, but that's hyperbole for you. It's also staffed accordingly, so the personnel would adjust better to such distance from home. Also, in "Where No One Has Gone Before", the ship was orders of magnitude farther away, though for a far shorter time. One thing is certain: Troi would be racking up overtime "beyond the dreams of avarice".

Why would he want that? He didn't do it in TNG when he had the chance via Hugh because it was genocide, and then he faced his demons in First Contact.

Picard just doesn't go around tooled up trying to kill everyone, no matter how malicious, he always looks for a peaceful solution. It makes me wonder if you've ever seen TNG!

I would kill Bevery,Troi and Riker and add Seven of Nine,EMH,Torres and Thomas Riker to the cast. You would still need to add the Maquis angle to the show IMO to make it worthwhile.
