What if someone told you they killed a pedophile, rapist etc?

If he's done his time, then no, the matter is closed. I will, however, strongly recommend that he change his job for his colleagues will most likely not want to work with a murderer/rapist. If he wanted a good working relationship, he should have kept his past to himself.

If he hasn't done his time, then yes, I will report him. I'd be stupid not to report him, if only for the family and friends of his victim. And, as always, it doesn't matter what the victim has done; by being murdered/rape he/she has become a victim. Revenge is barbaric and no amount of deeds done can make such an act justified. As such, the one who has murdered/raped has become as big a monster as the victim that has done such things himself.

I tolerate a lot; I'm a free thinker. I also don't care what colleagues do or have done. But murder is stepping over the line, just as rape is; I really don't want a sick nutjob like that around me. And if someone has done such and act and the accompanying time and preventive psychological detention then the matter is in the past and we won't know, unless the person is stupid enough to drag it up again.

Depends: is there an reward being offered for turning in the killer? Cause if there is, your ass is going to jail

If it's something where they did time, then I'd be inclined to at least talk to them about it before just saying "fuck off" as a knee jerk reaction. Then develop a more informed opinion.

The thing is for me is I would want evidence and details to prove the victim was guilty, but at the same time I would be pulling myself in deeper to something I wouldn't want to be involved with.
What makes you think that someone else being able to claim a crime of passion as a defense would in any way insulate you, an accessory after the fact? :wtf:

It wouldn't according to the law. What I am saying is there are somethings that are more important than the law and that would be ethics and morality. In this scenario my frined/co-worker has basically intrusted his freedom by telling me his secret. I wouldn't sell him out just because the law says something or how it might impact me. To turn him it it would have to be based on the simply question, of whether or not it is right or wrong to turn him in. To figure out this I would need to know the facts of what went down. If this was someone i trusted that simply means I would give him/her the benefit of the doubt of presenting me a reason, not to turn them in. It doesn't mean i am going to support what they did, simply on face value. A stranger wouldn't have that luxuray unless they presented some compelling evidence, and even then I would proably still turn them in because, as a stranger I wouldn't really have a enough info on them to tell me why they choose to kill the pedophile, rapist, murderer. Just because they have info that proves the guilt of their victim, it doesn't tell me anything about whether or not that evidence is why they did it. For all I know they could simply be pyshopaths that enjoy killing, in which case I would suspect a inocent person would eventually become a victim in their desire to murder people.

I don't see any choice but to turn them in. The person did commit a crime. If the person is man enough to murder someone, being that person judge, jury and executioner, then they should also be man enough to admit to their crime. They have done the same thing their victims were accused of doing. They have taken power over someone else and are proud enough about it to admit it. They are no better than their victim.

If it was a good friend of mine, a really god friend. I would give them the choice, either go with me to the police so you can turn yourself in (I would be with him through out the criminal proceedings, be a witness as to his character, and visit him while he is in prison.), or I'll turn you in myself. If they refuse to go with me I'd tell them to start running now. My freedom is worth more to me than your sense of justice, my respect for human life, no matter the persons sins, is worth more to me.

It would depend how close I was to the person.

I'm very loyal to my good friends.

Too many potential variables to give a definitive answer.

I could envisage not turning them in under very specific and extremely unlikely circumstances, but the great likelihood is that I would turn them in.

Inform the police of their having committed murder, of course. I'm shocked anyone can see it differently, to be honest.

I don't think I'd call the Police, but said person is obviously a grade A twat so I'd pretty much want nothing to do with them ever again.

Why would they be a twat for killing someone who is basically evil. Granted I don't beleive in good and evil in the simplifed way, that religion defines but there are some crimes were the word "evil" makes sense.

Jason

Well if you have no set moral standard, then who's to say your definition of evil won't change next week? And if it does maybe you wouldn't want that person killed after all.

I'd report them to the police. Murder is murder and I don't believe anyone has a right to murder another human being.

Are you really shocked? Really? It's indicitive of the culture we live in, where someone would even contemplate not turning in a murderer. I wonder what the % is. Jayson should have added a poll.

Was the pedophile/rapist proven guilty in a court ? Just trusting someone doesn't mean shit. Everyone makes mistakes and killing someone is a pretty big thing.
Anyway,I would call the cops.

Besides, I don't believe in killing as a deserving punishment for proven pedophiles, rapists etc etc Too quick and easy.
They should spend a looong time in prison actually suffering for their crime. Maybe getting to experience some prison sex too.

I find it amusing/horrifying just how many people here seem to think murder is a less serious crime than rape or molesting a child. I also find it amusing/horrifying just how eager so many of you are to see someone-anyone-suffer. Just pick up a gun and go out and maim/murder people, already. That's all this attitude is- a way to justify your own violent or abusive urges by finding justification for inflecting it on others. "Oh, they did this, so that means I get to add them to the hit list!!!". Look what you just wrote, SalvorHardin. You apparently object so much to rape that you want to...see people get raped. Right...

I object to the rape of the unsuspecting & innocent, as i assume we all are.
Rapists and pedophiles are not just anyone. They do something terrible and destroy lives.

You should leave my urges alone because you really don't know anything about them.
I don't "want" it or "desire" it or say it "must" happen.
however, if they happen to get some of their own medicine while in prison and see what it's like then you will excuse me if I will not be crushed.

You can shed a tear for them if you like or send them a cake.
