What if Sisko failed to stop Dukat at the end?

Do you think the Pah Wraiths would, or could, actually have destroyed the entire universe? Or was that just Dukat's grandstanding?

(Assuming that people such as Q did not try to stop them.)

Probably not. The evidence on hand shows that the pah-wraiths were arrogant blowhards who were also more than a little stupid. Sure, they say they'll destroy the universe. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Bajor is toast, though.

Read the "Millennium" novels from Pocket. They create a pretty good elseworlds story that shows one possibility of it the Pah Wraith had taken over.

All through the series I was a big fan of the Great gul Dukat and didn't particularly like his 'religious strategy' toward the end of DS9. From what we know of him and his attitude 'destroying the universe' is the last thing he would do. Sure he wanted victory...but he wanted more than anything was to rule over his enemies and gloat.

if Dukat was still Dukat, I'd agree it'd be the last thing. Dukat was an egomanical despot, but not a crazed killer (look up his interesting argument re destroying Earth with Weyoun during the Occupation Arc). but as a pagh wraith, his actions and reactions were totally unpredictable, and that's what he still was at the end of the show, right? So I don't know.

They could very well have opened the wormhole to allow Dominion reinforcements into the Alpha Quadrant. Not sure though that the Pah'wraiths would be any more friendly with the Dominion than the Prophets were though.

I think Dukat went into his Pah mode thinking he would remove himself from his Pah mode later on once he no longer needed them, then return to being a Cardassian overlord that reigns over Bajor. Just like he had planned to do with the Dominion.

Of course, the fellow Pahs would probably not take too kindly to that plan by Pah Dukat. But naturally, Dukat wasn't worrying about that at the time when he made the plan.
