What if Shatner ends up in the movie and it's...

...pointless? Out of place? A silly wink-and-a-nod cameo? Something that took you right out of the movie?

Basically, at this point, ANY appearance by William Shatner is going to take me right out of the movie, because of all the back-and-forth about "will he, won't he", and the crazy fans (on both sides) arguing about his involvement. And to think, we still have a year to go...

Anyone else feel like this?

I feel that TPTB wouldn't put Shatner in it unless they could do it without distracting from the movie itself.

That feeling might very well come from the fact that they've made a point of saying as much several times already.

nah. I will enjoy it. At this point it would be a pleasant surprise, as I think it would take an act of heaven to get him in.

What if he wasn't physically onscreen? The voice of a computer or a CGI alien like Mr. Arex? ;)

Perhaps a cameo like Patrick Macnee's in The Avengers from 1996. He was so supportive of that remake, they gave him a part in it. Although Fiennes and Thurman weren't the best example of recasting iconic characters and having them played in exactly the same way.

Another possibility would be that Spock spends the movie trying to help younger Spock keep the timeline right, and at the end of the film he returns to his own time, and finds Shatner's Kirk alive and well, tho' onscreen for only a moment.

It'd give people Shatner in the film, and also do what many have wanted..."BRING BACK KIRK".

"Bring Back Kirk" is exactly what's wrong with the Trek community.

You have seen that video, right? I hope it's supposed to be comedy.

I'd say it's an example of people loving the characters and not WANTING Kirk to die.

I felt the end of Trek 5 sort of did it nice. They rode off into the sunset and said goodbye to us (not too different from the last moment of TNG).

We know that all the characters WILL die, but as long as we don't see it, it all becomes sort of foggy and distant.

Then, we got Trek 6, and Sulu was no longer on the Enterprise.

Another version of the "riding off", but now sort of fractured.

Then, in GENERATIONS, Kirk goes and dies on camera.

Blah.

If Spock somehow, unintentionally, alters the timeline so that everything during the series era stays the same, but somehow causes Kirk not to be lost on Enterprise B during the movie era, and thus gets to live out the rest of his life, even if we don't see it, it seems more settled, more "right".

A quick glimpse of him alive, a look on Spock's face as if he isn't sure how to take this, and then the movie ends.

Older Kirk's alive, and that's all we need to know. Goodbye.

Now, on with more stories of him and Spock when they were younger.

You know, I don't want Trek to fail, but it would amuse me slightly to see Shatner in there and have the movie bomb. Big financial draw, eh big guy? :bolian:

The above poster has a great idea. Spock changes the timeline and at the end of the movie Old Spock and Old Kirk are there and walk off in the sunset. Then we can have whole new adventures with young Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

Because for me, nothing say Star Trek more than the relationship between Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the Enterprise. That is Star Trek...Kirk dying the way he died was a huge mistake. And I don't particularly care about Bring back Shatner stuff...but this scenario just seems right.

^^ QFT.
I seriously don't understand all this obsession with getting Shatner in Trek XI. There is no reasonable way that William Shatner, at his current physical appearance or demeanor could pull of portraying Kirk again in any reasonable fashion. He would add nothing to the film. In fact, he would only make it worse. He's a buffoon.

That ship has sailed, let it go people.

I'd really rather not see The Shat in this movie. If they really are having trouble 'finding a way' to put him in, it's because he is not needed and his appearance would most likely end up being extraneous.

Though I'm sure Abrams realizes this and made the 'we're looking for a way' comment just to get the BBK loonies off his back. That's what I would've done.

Besides, haven't you heard? Shat wants 'that film' to flop.

How absurd. Of course he could play Kirk. He could play a 76 year old Kirk easy and he could pass for a 60 year old Kirk if the script called for it.

And as far as Shatner adding anything to the film, sure he would add something...James T. Kirk. The whole mindest that William Shatner as James Kirk will NOT add anything to a TOS themed Star Trek movie is ridiculous.

despite the fact that Kirk would be like 200 years old and Shatner dosent even look like Kirk and probably can't even play that charachter any more. Theres no need for Shatner he's a huge sell out.

Don't you have a bridge you could be hiding under?
