I hate it because they have nothing to do with each other and it seems contrary to their ethos. Surely they'd just go there and put a bullet in Khan's head.
If I was going to do a Ceti Alpha V theory it'd be something like how did that planet end up in Kirk's exes candidates for a testing sight. Or Kirk tried to delete the planet from the Federation records and ended up drawing more attention to it.

Who would know they were there? The galaxy is a big place and Ceti Alpha V was in Federation space. The odds of discovery are slim. More to the point, why would they care? Khan held no secrets and he wasn't the most powerful man in the universe. That was He-Man.

At this point, everything here is fan speculation but Nick Meyer's opinion on what really happened to Ceti Alpha 6 is on that audio play series now for anyone who wants to listen, however like all other non-screen material its unclear what, possibly zero, canonical weight this holds (although CBS writers said for now that's what their going with, until whenever Paramount replaces the current Trek showrunners that is)
