No problem! I just found it amusing in light of Asimov's and Clarke's somewhat tongue-in-cheek rivalry. I love both authors!

I think Q can arc through any alternate reality. It’s just my opinion that the Q only have one version.The subject of a Mirror Borg came up in this thread. If it doesn’t already exist, there should be A Mirror Borg Thread. I’ll have to check.

Mirror Borg have appeared in the novels...they travel in diamonds rather than cubes, and are led by a King.

One, that confuses omniscient with omnipotent. Two, the Q might identify themselves as being omnipotent, but they actually aren't (they're pretty darn powerful, though).

I'm not confusing omnipotence with omniscience.

But an omnipotent being could choose to know everything instantly, if he/she/whatever (just using 'he' for brevity after this) so desired. After all, if he couldn't do that, he would not be omnipotent. In that sense, omnipotence 'includes' omniscience.

It therefore follows that if a being is omnipotent yet not omniscient, that can only be by his own choice.

My original statement was that Q wouldn't have to explore the universe, since he could choose to know everything instantly, which is in line with the above.

That is of course, assuming Q is omnipotent. Which, like you, I don't believe he actually is.

(And of course, it is also ignoring that it is exceedingly hard, if not outright impossible, to define 'omnipotence' in such a way that it doesn't lead to logical paradoxes in the first place).
