What if John Williams orchestrated the music of "Star Trek, The Motion Picture"?

To use Jaws as an example, how many composers could manage to make just the first two notes so instantly recognizable to so many people?

Ironic you should pick that one since he famously ripped off the beginning of Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, and I say that as a big fan of Williams.

Ha, I actually had no idea. I had a listen and yeah, it's a pretty good match. Although on the flip side of my ill-informed "Who else would come up with...?" comment, it is a very small bit. But an easily recognized one, and both being the start of the pieces to boot.

We would have the most boring movie of all-time with a good soundtrack.

Which is pretty much what we already have.

Re; Jerry Goldsmith. Every once in a while you find out something you should have known all along. I never knew that he did:

What do you think the Music of the first Star Trek film would sound like if John Williams wrote the score for the film?

For me, personally, I think the score of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" is the closest to what TMP's musical score would sound like if conducted by John Williams. Especially this:

I think ST:TMP was as good as anything Mr Williams could come up with, if not better.

It is a superb soundtrack. I only wish they hadn’t used the same score for TNG.
