What if it HAD been "Lesley"?

I think especially in the 80s people would have scrutinized a teenager being given bridge duty based on enthusiasm and intelligence sans experience more if it were Lesley. The whole women having to prove themselves and men being given benefit of the doubt thing.

Maybe this could happen today, two Starfleet women on a date, but like you said, not at the time those episodes aired.

I was really disappointed that Beverly didn't get with that symbiont guy when they were in the female body. They missed a really good opportunity - she didn't even contemplate it. Such a shame.

Do you think people would hate her just as much?

Now there's an idea for waypoint...Wesley meets his female self. IDW already did a genderswap universe story for the NuTrek characters in the Star Trek:Ongoing "Parallel Lives".

Jake Sisko just as easily could have been Jackie. That character worked for me because he didn't have a gimmick. He was just a son who, thankfully, didn't follow in his fater's footsteps.

Yes, a daughter character would have been nice--although we had a little Ziyal. Not sure if we'll ever see any child characters in some future series. Discovery looks to be taking things back to basics and leaving out all the extras.
