What if Cormac McCarthy wrote a Star Trek episode?

I'm reminded that the original series was pitched as wagon wheel to the stars, and I have to wonder what a Cormac McCarthy villain would be like in a Star Trek episode. (I'm thinking of Cormac as he recently passed away.) We can go pretty dark now that Star Trek can be TV-MA on P+.

And in general: what would Star Trek be like today if it grasped more of its western roots? I ask with modern day westerns being pretty popular right now.

Star Trek that embraced its western roots in the modern era would blend the best aspects of both genres, infusing the series with a sense of frontier adventure, moral ambiguity, individualism, and complex character dynamics. It would offer a unique and compelling take on the Star Trek universe, appealing to fans of both science fiction and westerns, while exploring relevant societal themes through a fresh lens.
