What I Would Like For The Next Companion

Quite simple really.

Someone who is NOT!! The Most Important Person Evah!

They've all been "special" in their own way.

Why not someone just along for the ride and having their eyes opened to the universe?

Thoughts, please.

I know that directly contradicts what you are asking for, but I've wished this since The Next Doctor aired, and even more so after this season's two-parter. I want the next companion to be the unannounced next Doctor. Looking for Gallifrey together, of course.

Unlikely they could ever keep that a secret these days. In fact I'm not sure they could even keep that a secret back in the old days.

Yeah a companion who's important (because they mostly all are at some point) but who isn't the most important person ever in the universe would be good.

The Doctor helping the Doctor for a season before regenerating into...the Doctor?

Then were does the "compantion" Doctor go? Or does the Doctor leave himself behind to find himself, then starts up afterwards. So you could basically watch the season twice in a row and next season be right were the Doctor needs to be. Or the newly regenerated Doctor goes along with his older "companion" self for the start of the next season, then wonders into the wrong TARDIS (the previous Doctor's TARDIS at the start of the last season) and the "companion" takes over as the Doctor, finding a new normal companion in a few episodes (or have him be companion-less like Tom Baker wanted to run after Sarah Jane left).

The question would be, would the Doctor know he is traveling with himself? Or will he not clue in until after he regenerates (at first assuming he regenerated into his compation's face, and reacting to that, only to find out afterwards, when running into his older self again soon after, that he was the companion all along).

Testicles.

It's not much to ask for.

Do you think Rory thought about gauging if Hitler was really a uniballer?

Dunno, but Capaldi seems to be a great choice for the latter. He has no clue about a lot of things. Being unable to tell Clara's age is one thing, but he didn't notice Missy was a Time Lady after she deliberately showed him her two hearts. The next Doctor can no doubt play that trick on him. It would be totally in Capaldi's character to never notice.

I'd like an historical person. My dream companion, which I've said before, is Sarah Bolger reprising Princess Mary from The Tudors; I could see the Doctor taking her on as a "project."

A talking head of cabbage, a shape changing penquin and of course a really good looking young female. :techman:

Frobisher would be really cool. Not just because of the Talking, Shape-shifting Penguin thing, which would be very cool, but, I really love the voice of the character in The Holy Terror Audio.

Someone other than a young Modern Day UK Companion. An Alien, someone from the past, someone from the Future, someone a bit older (I love Evelyn Smythe in Audios, and Nasrene from the Silurian Two Parter could've been really fun). There's never been an Asian Companion, aside from very briefly in the McGann movie, but, he was as much The Master's Companion, as The Doctor's.

I'd quite like an Asian companion next time around and have her from China or Japan in the 25th century or something. That'd be interesting. Mostly I want someone who's interesting and possibly not from modern day Earth.

I think Shona would be the perfect companion. From what we saw, she's most definitely not anyone "special." I couldn't tell if we're supposed to think she's a slob, lazy, or poor (or any of the three), but her arc could be just an average human who goes from being a bit of a mess to getting their act together. Something simple.

Of course, that does make her special in the eyes of the Doctor, as Eleven said, "You know that in nine hundred years of time and space and I've never met anybody who wasn't important before." It could be the fact that she's not important that makes her important.

Especially if she doesn't get tangled in the Doctor's timeline, or gives birth to his wife, or helps him get over PTSD, or becomes the DoctorShona, etc.

Of course, if the Companion is just someone along for the ride and doesn't do anything spectacular, people will complain that they are boring.

Even if they do something important, they can be boring (see "Oswald, Clara"). If Moff can somehow bring himself to create a regular, realistic woman, then I'd be happy. Otherwise, I'd like to see a guy or the stealth Doctor idea.

She didn't have any friends.

Her father comes and goes.

Does he have more family that she is not interested in, or more family that is not interested in her?

Is she alienated because of something that Dave did?

Or when she broke up with Dave, did Dave get all their friends in the "divorce"?

Is Dave even her boyfriend?

Maybe they just watch old movies together platonically?

He could have used a DVD as a coaster?

Or said that Daniel Craig was better Bond than Timothy Dalton.

Filmheads get into stupid arguments about nothing.

Shona would be another Rose or Donna. If she was the next companion I wouldn't complain, but we've been down that road.

And the reason Clara is "The Most Important Person Evah" is because she's the 50th anniversary companion. That was her function. Now it's evolving. We'll see what happens in the next series but I for one would love to see her as his apprentice. I'd like to see where that goes, if indeed that's what the revealed title implies.

After her, I'd like to see someone from a historical time period or an alien, like others have said. It would be a nice change.

After the Doctor and Clara find Gallifrey, Clara goes off to have her own adventures.

The Time Lords decide that, even though he saved them from the Daleks, the Doctor and his TARDIS are too dangerous to be roaming the universe unchecked. They let him leave and keep his TARDIS, but only under the condition that aTime Lady accompany him on his travels.

The first episode has the Doctor take Time Lady to Earth, where she questions why he finds the humans so fascinating. After much angst and drama, the Time Lady becomes intrigued with the Doctor's perspective on the universe, and she decides she would like to continue traveling with him for a while.

There's never been an Asian Companion, aside from very briefly in the McGann movie, but, he was as much The Master's Companion, as The Doctor's.

I thought the rule of thumb was that you had to go for a ride in the Tardis to be considered a Companion?

He died inside the TARDIS and then came back.

That is travelling?

Ling Tai as Shou Yuing deserves an honourable mention too.

Shou, Ace and the Doctor could have traveled together for years before Ghostlight caught up with them?

Knowing the Time Lords they'd probably make the Doctor, Lord President again. That's assuming there hasn't been some sort of change in leadership after all it was the General who asked the question Doctor Who? But then again him asking could be down to any number of reasons.
