What I want in a Star Trek game

I want a Star Trek game that merges First Person Shooter gameplay and Space Ship combat.

Have you guys ever played battlefield 1942? One of my favorite things was naval battles. I loved the seamless merger of ship v ship battles and infantry combat. Ships dueled it out with their guns or sent their planes out. And had infantry crawling all over their decks, manning the AA guns, and providing fire/repair support. But the infantry players were more than just locked to the ship. They could board enemy ships and fight other infantry players. Or they could sabotage the enemy ship from the inside out. I loved that so much. I want a star trek game just like that. Except with better graphics of course and much more players. I'd love to be a space marine boarding enemy ships and taking them over from the inside out. I would love to be able to eventually fight my way up to the bridge and shanghai an enemy ship for my team. Or if my ship has been taken over. Blow the warp core and take the bastards down with me. Oh that be so cool.

Why doesn't a game like that exist yet? I dont count STO. It's not for me.

What you describe is pretty much STO....

I'd recommend you get the newes t game, Resurgence. It is great fun and is not too expensive.

I want Starfield. Except it's Star Trek.

It would fit the mold perfectly, the player character just can't be Starfleet directly. Give the option to be different races, with different bonuses/dialogue/etc. but you're some kind of independent guy that will interact with several different factions and what not.

STO doesn't exactly 'feel right' when it comes to starship battles for some reason.
Bridge Commander got this down pretty well, so I was personally thinking starship battles along the lines of Bridge commander (just evolved to present day standards) and incorporate first/third person RPG like Mass Effect and Horizon series + maybe some of Birth of the Federation stuff.

What about Dyson Sphere Program style game but set in Trek?
Your task is to advance the UFP to Type II status by building dyson swarms and eventually spheres (swarms are relatively easy to make but do the same job as spheres do and are eminently far more practical - but Trek tech has the needed stuff to make Spheres work too, so there's that) starting in SOL and then later on (if the project is deemed successful, you get the go ahead to spearhead creation of other swarms/spheres in other UFP member planets solar systems).
In turn, technology and science start evolving even faster with full use of self-replicating satellites/drones which would be doing all the work for constructing things, and also running background simulations on R&D of newest science and technologies that would reduce the time for their development by thousands to millions of times.

Then you bring the UFP to Type III status when eventually most stars in the Milky Way and those in nearby Dwarf Galaxies are harnessed (which would take you to round about 26th, maybe 28th century... possibly 30th or 31st at the most - remember that exponential construction would ensue due to automation doing most this - especially with advent of replicators and transporters - but the job can be easily done the similar way without those techs) and of course Andromeda galaxy too (very early starts towards Type IV status)... and the more advanced you become, you trigger certain 'events' such as drawing attention of similarly advanced species - some that are friendly, others hostile, etc.

You should also be able to go on separate away missions and build diplomatic relations with others.
