looking at his IMDB I was surprised to read he was in AvP.

Yeah. He's a very impressive nerdy Yank in AVP. He was also an evil priest on Hex. I don't think he reminds me too much of Patrick Troughton. However, whenever I see Sam Troughton in anything, he's always the best thing in it (well, maybe 2nd best on Hex).
