What has TrekBBS done for you?

The TrekBBS, and in particular PKTrekGirl, helped me get interested in LOST.

I was also able to brush up on my photoshop skills and learn how to use animated GIF files for avatars and things.

I've found another reason to get broadband.

I was introduced to YouTube, Twitter and eventually Facebook here.

I also discovered the silly side of the Internet this way, with a whole world of thread bombs etc. to arm myself with.

And I have met a number of wonderful, wonderful people here, some of whom I consider friends now, and whom I would very much like to meet in real life in the future.

^Does it matter when according to your avatar, you only have 3 more years to live anyways? :p

I've changed my avatar but i'll be using the asteroid avatar again closer the time. But yes it does matter because it is effecting the rate of my spiritual development. I want to be ready and stress free for the coming 2012 ascension.
Now I must go as I have some meditation to do.

Speaking of ascension, the TrekBBS also introduced me to Kingdom of Loathing. May it also introduce others to it too. :D

I don't even understand what that place is all about but what I did notice was the shop, do people honestly buy that crap? I really hope they don't.
People buy things that reflect their interests. Its a way KoL players can identify each other on the street. What's wrong with it?

You do realise there's more to that place than the merchandising shop, don't you? It's like people not really noticing Star Trek because they don't like the TrekBBS. :p

It taught me about something called 'personal canon', that the word 'shipper' has nothing to do with parcels or oceans, that some people have no humour, that cultural differences can be insurmountable and that you may NEVER make a joke about them, that even the most pedestrian words can -or indeed: will- be considered a personal attack, it has taught me about -usually Japanese- words that describe things of a sexual nature I could never have even imagined the existence of, that if you're wrong about something you must DEMAND an apology from all those who are right (or attack them with the worst slurs you can think of), that if you have an indefensible point of view you must not provide any arguments -but just repeat it again and again and again until someone gets in trouble for getting tired of your tirades and gives you a good talking to, that 'politics' is a dirty word and cannot be discussed civilly...

But it has also given me endless hours of great fun and interesting debates with some of the greatest personalities I have ever known (on many other boards as well!), a chance to learn and compare my -quite limited- skills in photo manipulation (and the high art of avatar creation), to look up the strangest of things in the weirdest of places when in doubt -or just curious, that I don't need to seek the company of strangers when I'm in the mood for a 'Friday beer' (or two (or more)), but -most importantly it has taught me that I'm never alone if on-line.

TrekBBS has been a sort of fixed point trough the turmoil and times I've gone trough in the soon to be seven years I've been here. Wow. Seven years. I was only 18 when I joined here.

Anyone who's known me from that time has seen me go from insecure high schooler without a beard and really bad hair to a slightly more secure adult with a rather cool beard and decent hair.

You've been my support trough my now infamous relationship with my American ex and the depression that I fell into after that. You've heard me rant about girl after girl and while you ignore me at times (and often rightfully so  ) you've never made me feel unwelcome.

You've put up with my overuse of the "" greamlin, my bending of the PG-13 rule (especially that of the number of "fuck"s in a post), my occasional hornyness, my Camaro obsession, my flurry of Avatars, my self deriding comments.

In short you've put up with me. And for that I thank you, since you didn't have to.

I've met lots of awesome people here, and I've met far too few of them. Some have left and are dearly missed by me and I'm sure by many else. But lots of new awesome people have come here as well and I hope they stay around for a long time. I know I'm definitely stuck here for quite a while :)

Met a lot of cool people and probably annoyed many more in the process.
Really the way to go trough life in general. Unless you're pissing someone off, you're not doing it right :D

So you can now go by the moniker "YouTwittFace"?

Nah love you too dude :D

What's wrong is that some people have more money than sense.

I wish I had that problem.

As for me, sure I've benefitted from this place. At no other time, in no other place have I been so relentlessly, and consistently ignored.

Or just tolerated.

TrekBBS has added 25 years to my life due to osmosis from Robau's pure, unleaded, awesome.

Guinness Muthafucking Book of World Records here I come - world's oldest man.
