What happens when all the regenerations are up?

We all know it CAN be done, and arguably through several different means. The Master was revealed as ressurected by the Time Lords in "Utopia" and supposedly given a brand new body and regeneration cycle, and the Doctor barely batted an eye. The Master regenerated at least once in this new body (from Yana to Saxon, and possibly from his initial incarnation into Yana to disguise himself completely) and the process we witnessed looked pretty compliant with the new series standard. The real question shouldn't be IF it CAN be done, but HOW it WILL be done.

Simple, just before the Time Lords were consumed in the Time War they willed all their future regenerations to the Doctor. Now he can go on forever.
Yeah that's what I was thinking. If the show is still popular BBC isn't going to end it just because he runs out of regenerations.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dr. Who doesn't take its continuity that seriously. It's not like having 13 Doctors is a big part of the mythos and appeal of the character, right? Has the concept even been raised in the Davies Who series?

The regeneration limit is mentioned several times in the classic series (as well as the TV movie).

However, it hasn't been mentioned yet in the new series.

I don't mind if they skip past it, but I do hope it get mentioned in some respect.

Maybe it's just me (and I know it's not) but I kinda like the idea of the 13th Doctor, a man who finally realises he's mortal, who realises this is it, no more magical get out of jail free card. <shrug> It's not like I want the show to end though...

well as long as the Doctor thinks he could die and not regenerate then the 13th would be that Doctor.

that said given Tens regeneration stunt, it seems that each individuals Doctor has a will to survive, of his own, rather than the Doctor as a whole surviving.

Dr. Who never really followed "continuity" like Star Trek. So, I have a feeling that we will have a Dr. as long as the series is viable. They'll think of something, briefly gloss over it, and then move on. Which is fine by me. Canon is not exactly a Dr. Who philosophy, although they do try to stay within certain bounds. As long as they do so, I'm all for it.

It's a Gallifreyan Dozen, much like a bakers dozen but is 26 not 13.

Problem solved

The universe won't be as safe a place if he isn't around. Why, a new set of regenerations would fix that.

That's a understatement, the universe became a very very unsafe place when he last left....What might happen again if the Dr leaves us

Hopefully a better song than that if the Doctor leaves again, maybe something from U2...

U2 has no place on Doctor Who.

U2 have no place anywhere, come to think of it. Fuck U2.

Because I don't like the music, Bono is right up himself and The Edge has a stupid name.

Same here. Sanctimonious cunt of a front man coupled with samey, gimmicky shit music (The Edge's "talent" amounts to little more than a delay pedal...).

Come on guys, less of the "text talk" at least spell it right... You Too.
oh and add me to the list.

Yeah, I can totally see that. I was never quite sure where their fame and influence came from, but I enjoyed some of their early stuff. I would never classify them as great musicians, but they have had something of a positive impact, culturally. And, as much as I agree that Bono is a smug, self-righteous chump, he has done some very good charity works and made at least an effort to improve the world around him. So, I got nothing against him on that end...
