What Happens in Vegas....

...gets posted in this thread!

The weather is supposed to be very cold (50's). I guess that's better than the first time we went, which was in July (not sure what I was thinking there). It was 118. They might as well have built that city on the surface of the sun....

So anyway, I hope you'll consider sharing some of your memories/good stories about your trip to Las Vegas. Fun places you went, big gambling winnings, etc. Any arrests or quickie marriages out there?

Do tell. It's just us in here....

;)

We went up in December. I thought the wife was going to die from the cold. Right after we left there was snow on the Strip.

The EX is a compulsive gambler. The trips years ago was her sitting at a blackjack table or slot machine soaking up the free booze and taking cash advances off of her credit cards. 5, 6 hours of that she would come to me saying that she won a free lunch at the hotel's C list buffet.

This trip was hitting the shopping malls and tours during the day. Resturaunts at night. And enjoying the suite, sorry you don't get those stories.

The one thing we love about going to Vegas is...neither of us gamble much. I might try the slots for a little while, but that's about it.

If you don't waste your time and money gambling, you can have a great time in Las vegas...

I've been to Vegas once, in 2006. My friend rented the King Pin Suite at the Palms, which had two bowling lanes in the main room, for his 30th birthday and they gave him several other junior suites for the night before and the night of, so several of us bunked in one of those. The night before his birthday, he got a suite at the MGM Grand. He flew about 30 people in from all over the country and we basically just partied in the rooms, including an epic 10-hour, formal wear, round robin bowling tournament in the suite. Our team decided that a great thing to do, would be to take a shot of jager every time a team member succeeded in knocking down pins.

Then things went downhill. I know there are photos floating around of me in 5-inch heels and a cocktail dress, brandishing a half-drunk bottle of jager while attempting to bowl. Not pretty.

This was the start of the party.

For some reason, my pictures stop about 15 minutes in...

I should say that very little gambling got done those two days. I played a game or two of Casino War and a few hands of blackjack. The whole trip cost me less than $50...

Oh my GOD! That is awesome.

That's definitely where we're staying the next time we go.

Well done!

The one and only time I was near Vegas was when I was in the Army. We flew into an airfield on the outskirts of the city and linked up with our vehicles which we were driving to FT Irwin, CA. I saw the city from a distance. I remember that big black pyramid and a bunch of other buildings, but that is all I got to see.

Where are you staying? I totally want to stay at the Venetian at least once in my lifetime.

It's a nifty hotel. Shall I get us a room? :p

The niftiness wears off, though, as one realizes the Gatsby-esque artificiality of it all.

The best way to see Vegas is in the rear view mirror. I took a roadtrip of the national parks of the southwest in 2006 and that was the most convenient place to fly into on my frequent flyer miles. I pretty much saw the airport and the uhhh...airport.

It's just not my speed. I'd be miserable there within an hour.

My reaction when I visited was not as severe as yours, but I did find myself enjoying Red Rock Canyon, The Valley of Fire, and Hoover Dam much more than The Strip. Plus, with Gil Grissom no longer in charge of CSI, there really is no reason to visit... :p

Been to Vegas a few times since I turned 21. I had two epic trips. My first is when my friends decided to drive to Vegas the week before school started and I was like "ok". We of course took the wrong route through Yosemite. And then got pulled over for doing 120. Once we got there, it was all poker and alcohol, all the time. Had to book a flight back because they both decided to stay there through the week. What made it epic was the fact that we just hit all of the poker rooms in a constant rotation, getting no sleep.

The 2nd epic trip was a bit more fun. My friend was flying to Vegas for his 21st for the weekend and I ended up getting a ticket the night before. Again, a lot of poker was played, but we also ended up going to what was supposedly the best strip club in Vegas. I ended up getting a card for a free ride there any time I am in town. I also ended up playing at a poker table right next to the "Biggest Poker Game Ever" which was round II of a consortium of the biggest pros vs. rich Texas Banker Andy Beal. Playing for millions of dollar. Was a bit surreal.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Beal#Poker_playing (I was there on Feb 5/2006)

It also happened to be Super Bowl weekend, so we had fun with that one as well.

Sometimes I miss the life of a professional poker player when I could do things like that, but it is too stressful and emotional.

I was in Vegas last week for the Super Bowl. I'm glad I set a daily gambling limit, because that turned out to be a brutal six days.

I used to head down there 5-6 times a year, but now it's more like 3 times a year. Despite the fact that there are some great travel deals out there, I won't be back until the second week in May (national BCA pool tourney).

Anyway, Caeser's is a great place to stay. The casino itself is not really my cup of tea, but the location is great. Good Luck!!

I lived in Vegas for a few months last year and I agree with what you've said as regards The Strip. But I was surprised how much there was to do outside of that.

I remember there were more tattoos than I'd ever seen before. I'd never before looked at a girl and thought she had implants (I got pretty good at spotting them while there). People looked like they were trying way too hard to look good that they looked awful to my eyes.

And it was the only time I've seen celebs. Ryan Seacrest at the club at the Wynn (beautiful casino, but $14 for a bottle of Miller Lite!?!), Scotty Nguyen at a McDonald's (Hey said, "Hey Baby!''), and we actually saw Howie Mandel playing a Deal or no Deal slot at the MGM Grand.:techman:

Have a great trip, Digits!

Tourists......:rolleyes::rolleyes:

:p

I went to Vegas for a weekend in 2001. When I left, it was 2003. Other than the quickie marriage bit, if it's Vegas, I've probably done it.

Don't tell me the recession is hitting Vegas too!

Big time. One of the worst housing markets in the country.

And I read today that Station Casinos is expected to go bankrupt soon.

During a recession, Vegas is usually amoung the hardest hit places due to the fact that 90% of their economy is related either directly or indirectly to the resort industry.

After Sept. 11, 2001, the casinos in Vegas were either directly or indirectly responsible for 50,000 jobs being lost in the city.

Where are you staying? I totally want to stay at the Venetian at least once in my lifetime.

Caesar's Palace.

:techman:

Good choice. I think the only two hotels I like staying in in Vegas are the Flamingo and the Luxor.

We stayed at the Hilton before, primarily because of the Star Trek Experience. This was before the monorail was built. The Hilton is outdated, and off the beaten path.

Last time we stayed at Skylofts, which is on top of the MGM Grand. I liked MGM, but the apartments themselves were a bit sterile.

We're looking forward to Caesar's Palace. We want to be a little more "in the mix" this time....

I'm heading down the weekend of May 15th for a stag party, it's going to be pretty epic - we're getting a midget stripper.

I'll let everyone know how that goes.

Any particular reason she has to be a midget?
Yeah, my buddy who's getting married is very short, and we can't think of anything funnier than a midget giving him a lap dance. We're also going to dress him up as Napoleon the whole time he's there.

Flight was cheap, and I'm shopping around places to stay and can't beleive the price difference from the last time I was down there.

Maybe your stripper will be....half off?

That's right.

I went there.
That felt good.

Your mind would fill an entire book of psychology case studies... :p :D

I'll be sure to send you pictures so you can use them as cautionary examples for clients. ;)

*LMAO*

Midget strippers? Oh REALLY? This is something I've only heard about in old 80's VHS-format fetish porn.
