What Happens in Vegas....

Before everything happened with my sister, my wife and I planned a trip to Las Vegas. After what I've been through the past month, it couldn't come at a better time.

So we're heading to Sin City on Friday for three days of food, booze, and general tomfoolery. We've got concert tickets for Saturday and Sunday, and we've got a nice suite in one of the big casinos.

I love going to Las Vegas. This will be my 4th trip. We've seen several of the Cirque Du Soleil shows (O, Mystere, Ka) and we always enjoy those. Unfortunately, there's no Star Trek Experience/Quark's to go to this time. How will I survive without a Warp Core Breach???

The weather is supposed to be very cold (50's). I guess that's better than the first time we went, which was in July (not sure what I was thinking there). It was 118. They might as well have built that city on the surface of the sun....

So anyway, I hope you'll consider sharing some of your memories/good stories about your trip to Las Vegas. Fun places you went, big gambling winnings, etc. Any arrests or quickie marriages out there?

Do tell. It's just us in here....

;)

Oh, that sounds wonderful. I've never been to Vegas, but it looks like you'll be doing it in style... :techman:

Part of the attraction is that everything is so cheap (relatively). Our flight is $600 less, and three nights in our suite costs less than one night did in October 2007 (the last time we went).

Don't tell me the recession is hitting Vegas too!

We passed Planet Hollywood in Leicester Square on our way home today, and it had closed! I guess no one is safe. :wtf:

What concerts will you go to?
I've never been to Vegas (or even the US), but your plans sound like fun. I hope you'll enjoy your holidays. :)

Big time.

Well, their loss is your gain. :D

Maybe I should think about putting something away to finally do Vegas... seems like there'll never be a better time than now!

Then again, the pound has fallen by about 25% against the dollar, that could make a big difference...

I've only been to Vegas twice, both times on business. And both times the event was held in the only Marriott in Vegas without a casino. Specifically not included in order to "minimize the distractions to your event attendees". So not gambling, no cheap/free booze, the food was expensive. Plus they built the place way out in the middle nowhere so it's expensive to get downtown to do anything remotely fun.

As a result, most of the gambling I've done since I moved to Oregon has been in Indian casinos.

My dad took me to Vegas when I turned 21. I had a pretty good time, all things considered.

Not gambling, of course. I did very little of that. Some half hearted attempts at a slot machine, but I lost a grand total of about a dollar. No big deal.

The most I got out of that whole trip was the food (very good) and concerts (saw Sam Kinison). In fact the concert was probably the most fun I had the whole time. The line was so long that my dad kept wanting to leave, but we stayed and eventually got in. It was hilarious. :D

After it was over I felt kind of ashamed that I didn't have a hugely good time with loads of gambling and booze and all that. Why else do people go to Vegas if not for that? ;) But there was food, and concerts, plus the Siegfried and Roy show, and so it was not that bad of a time.

Don't plan on going back there though. Too damned hot.

What happens in Vegas does NOT stay in Vegas. Is there any city that has more security cameras?

I love Vegas. I've been there twice and haven't gone to any Cirque de Soleil shows yet. The Star Trek Experience was a lot of fun.

I was in Vegas when I was 14. We stopped there for a day on our way to California. My brothers and I hung out upstairs at Circus Circus and played video games while my parents hit the casino. On a dare I played a slot machine once. I figured that they'd haul me off to jail if I was caught.
I haven't been back since, although my brother-in-law's girlfriend made him take her there for the sole reason to see Celine Dion. I still give him crap for that.

The best way to see Vegas is in the rear view mirror. I took a roadtrip of the national parks of the southwest in 2006 and that was the most convenient place to fly into on my frequent flyer miles. I pretty much saw the airport and the uhhh...airport.

It's just not my speed. I'd be miserable there within an hour.

I'm heading down the weekend of May 15th for a stag party, it's going to be pretty epic - we're getting a midget stripper.

I'll let everyone know how that goes.

Flight was cheap, and I'm shopping around places to stay and can't beleive the price difference from the last time I was down there.

Any particular reason she has to be a midget?

Maybe your stripper will be....half off?

That's right.

I went there.
