What happenned to them ?

Let's see.

The writers for SG-1 tried to turn the myths and legends about ghouls into an evil alien.

The writers for Atlantis tried to turn the myths and legends about wraiths into an evil alien.

I'm guessing the writers for Universe are going to try to turn the myths and legends about either zombies, mummies, or ghosts into an evil alien.

As a result I'm willing to wager that the two who went to the restricted world are being inhabited by a mysterious ghost-like entity similar to the "good" whirlwinds we saw in Air. Naturally these mysterious ghost-like entities are related to these "good" whirlwinds but went bad and, like, are doing bad things and stuff! The "good" whirlwinds, feeling guilty about their inability to stop them, are going around trying to clean up all the worlds the "bad" whirlwinds are leaving in ruin. Yup yup.

And naturally Destiny knows all about them because it's super smart, so it was like all "lolz guis, those other worlds have the bad whirlwind guys on it! u no go kkk???"

Hell, Destiny is probably upset because it gave the "bad" whirlwinds a ride off their original planet, and the whirlwinds were all "amg awesum tek, lets use it to be locusts of this galaxy and all the others dis ship has been too amg amg amg!"

The sad thing is, I'm not joking. I honestly believe that's where the writers are going because they really are this god-awful.

I am chalking up that whirlwind to an ascended ancient who can't help directly, but did so in an indirect sort of way.

Nah.

If they're related to any of the elder races it's going to be the Furlings, with the rationale that the reason we never encountered them in the Milky Way or Pegasus galaxies is because they left around the same time Destiny did. Or, even more likely, Destiny's actual mission was to track them down and/or stay in communication with them.

There was a preview after the premier that showed our teams finding a human skull on a planet, my opinion is that this is the skull of one of these people.
