What happened to this "Lost Era" book?

A couple of years ago, Pocket Books announced a "Lost Era" book set during the 2360s, chronicling the Tzenkethi War and the U.S.S. Okinawa's involvement in it. Was the idea canceled? That's disappointing, as I was looking forward to it.

I don't know for sure, but I was under the impression that it never progressed past the "Gee, this is a neat idea" stage.

I remember reading that it was Marco's project, but there was no writer working on it. Now Marco is gone, so the project is totally stalled.

That sucks because I really wanted to see more with the Tzenkethi, Sisko and Leyton on the Okinawa, and get more info on what caused the war and some of the battles. It's an unwritten part of Trek that could be pretty interesting, like KRAD turned the Betreka Nebula Incident into. Or DRG with the Tomed Incident.

From what I read I before I thought it was more than at the idea stage. Well, oh darn. Maybe one day someone will revisit the idea.

It wold be great if KRAD could write the Tzenkethi War Lost Era book some day. Do we know what years it would probably cover?

I didn't see anything on Memory Alpha or Beta, but it had to have been sometime in the 2350s or 2360s. Checking Memory Beta, the Titan novel Orion's Hounds said that the war ended in 2364.

AFAIK, there was at least one other Lost Era book that was rumored, but I can't remember what it was going to be about.

In DS9 Sisko is stated to have been promoted to Lt.Commander during the war, if I remember correctly. Since he is a lieutenant in "Catalyst of Sorrows" (2360), between 2361 and 2364 is where I'd slot the war. According to "Articles of the Federation", T'Pragh is President and the war has something to do with attempts to normalize trade agreements that the Tzenkethi react poorly to (though I'm guessing that's a real oversimplification). :)

I remember it being mentioned at the same time as The Buried Age was announced. Since TBA was written and published, people (me included) just assumed the Sisko/Tzenkethi novel would be along soon after.

If this project ever gets picked up, I wouldn't mind seeing David R. George III write it. :)

There's going to be a 'Typhon Pact' novel later next year that involves the Tzenkethi, so maybe we'll get a little more background on the war there. But who knows. I think it's the DS9 entry in the miniseries.

Nah, I'm not sure who's paired off with the Tzenkethi, but the DS9 entry stars the Romulan Empire. Hmm, let's see...

TNG: Tholians
Titan: Gorn
DS9: Romulan Empire
Aventine: Breen

Which leaves the Tzenkethi and Kinshaya. Were the Kinshaya slated to get a novel with the Klingons? That would make the most sense.

So who for the Tzenkethi? New Frontier maybe?

^I don't think that New Frontier is taking part in all of the Typhon Pact stuff. It would be nice though. Maybe the untitled book coming in 2010-11) AFAIK, the last time NF had an entry in an inter-series mini-series was Gateways.

The Tzenkethi are also involved in the Deep Space Nine storyline. They are not getting a stand alone book.

nx1701g posted this about 2 months ago in another thread:

"Here are the particulars of which empire gets which novel:

Seize the Fire - Titan - Michael A. Martin - The Gorn Hegemony
Zero Sum Game - Aventine - David Mack - The Breen Confederacy
The Rough Beasts of Empire - DS9 - David R. George III - Both Romulan Groups, Tzenkethi
Path of Disharmony - Enterprise-E - Tholians - Dayton Ward"

Yeah, I've never been a New Frontier reader, but it'd be cool to get them involved. Ah well.

Ahh... thanks. Shame, IMO. I just found the four-book-list on Memory Beta. So no novel for the Kinshaya I take it?

ETA: Ahh, thanks for the list LutherSloan.

Christopher, thanks for the clarification. Does anyone know if Sisko will be playing a big part in the DS9 Typhon Pact book? I wouldn't mind seeing a reunion with the Tzenkethi. We got a near one in "The Adversary", and that's made me curious about the Tzenkethi ever since. I gobbled up the portions of KRAD's novel AOTF that talked about them, and I'm glad that they have been included in the Typhon Pact.
