What happened to "The Gray"

As we all know, there hasbeen a lot of reports about certain aliens, referred to as "The Gray" in the 20th and 21th century.
Ah, you know what I mean, those typical aliens with big eyes who abducted people and were kept (dead or alive) at Arena 51.

Since they've never showed up in any Star Trek series and since their homeworld obviously not is a member of the Federation, what happened to them?

Were they defeated and annihilated by Earth forces when the Federation just was created?

Did the Vulcans help the Humans to fight them and annihilate them before the Federation was created.

Or were they conquered and/or annihilated by the Klingons, the Romulans or some other Galactic power?

A couple of the Reeves-Stevens novels mentioned that they were a race called Reticulii who were on a series of scientific expeditions. Checking on Memory Beta, it looks like a comic also drew on the UFO mythology, calling them simply "the Abductors." They're both described in one article, because Memory Beta doesn't have time for contradictions.

Yes, These are OBVIOUSLY them. Their evil empire collapsed around the year 2111. By the 2360's they were scattered and seeing one was very rare. You might find a few enslaved on various worlds. Riker had the rare opportunity to run into a sole surviving gray of a former grey&gray concentration camp. He brought him aboard Enterprise, .....






.......And will seriously regret that decision.

Perhaps they now only mix with other alien species in formal occasions. When they put on gold paint and wear little fezzes. Like the two hungry dudes in TOS "Journey to Babel".

Sorry, those aliens in "Schisms" don't look like "The Gray"
But your theory in the previous post about a surviving Gray does make sense.
