What happened to Chevy Chase?

The Not-Ready-For-Prime-Time-Players never managed to be ready for Prime Time. SNL, although it's had its moments, has never been what it was cracked up to be. Chevy Chase was never that funny. Bill Murray just creeps me out. John Belushi was a one-trick pony. Dan Ackroyd I thought had some potential in genre films but he just kind of went nowhere.

Who are the rest? I don't remember....

From the original cast, I remember:

Jane Curtin
Gilda Radner
Garrett Morris

As well.

^ Exactly!

The best thing that came out of MadTV was Kenny Rogers:Jackass.

"And now we'll do the bat fetcher trick with ma teeth!"

Oh God that whole scene still makes me laugh hysterically!

^ I thought MadTV was better than SNL.

I remember a mock trailer called Leaving Metropolis. It was a parody of Leaving Las Vegas with Nicolas Cage (or rather his lookalike) as a drunken vomiting Superman. I wish it was on YouTube.

Never impressed me much. And they ripped off Don Martin, didn't they?

There was a show on ABC in the early 80s called Fridays that was an SNL rip off, and it wasn't too bad at first.

You forgot Laraine Newman, but that's everybody else.

Yeah, that's where Larry David and Michael Richards got their first big breaks in TV. It didn't last long, but it was an attempt to compete with SNL after it got kind of crappy with the departure of Lorne Michaels and the original cast.

Hey, I used to love Rowan & Martin's Laugh In. :D

"Sock it to me?!"

Dude! First of all, you're not old enough to have watched Laugh In! Second, it used to play against Star Trek, so we're contractually obligated as Trekkers not to like it. Third, I'm not old enough either. Fourth, yeah, Goldie Hawn was freaking hot playing a Twiggy lookalike. :D

"What happened to Chevy Chase?"

Nothing that I know of. It's still in Montgomery County, Maryland, just outside DC.

Oh, you meant the person? ;-) No idea.

Early 1970's Goldie Hawn = Yum. :D

Laugh In was in a class by itself. I wish they'd put out more DVDs....

And Laugh In was actually on opposite Gunsmoke, which means I didn't get to watch when my Grandmother was around. :(

(Star Trek and Laugh In were actually on the same Network-- the story there is that they were both vying for the coveted Monday night slot and Laugh In won. ST got the Friday night death slot.)

Hell, I thought she was alright even in her Overboard days. :techman:

Ah, damn. Twice in one night I've gotten my facts wrong. Mind you, It has been awhile since I first read about it in Star Trek Memories. And by that, I mean awhile. When the other kids were reading Judy Blume novels, that's what I was reading.

This is also why it took so long before I ever kissed a girl. :techman:

I read Chevy Chase is actually banned from Saturday Night Live after how he treated people.

As for his career "Cops and Robbersons" was the end. Terrible freaking movie, worse than even Robin Williams at his worst.

Bill Murray hit a big slump once...remember that elephant movie?

Aging smartasses don't work that well, they either have to learn to act or retire.

SCTV beat SNL hands down in writing, acting and orginality. And most of the original cast are still working today.
