What gets you through the work day?

Supporting the war against terror working on Navy aircraft.

Making 1950's archaic equipment into war fighting machines of 2010!

^^^ That is what gets me through the work day.

My day usually goes by faster than I'd like, actually - when I have a lot of stuff to do, I don't even notice the time. (And it usually means that I have between 30 and 50 emails waiting for me when I get home as I forget to check it during the day.)

But when the day is frustrating, either because I can't seem to solve the problem I'm working on or because I keep having to switch from one task to another (one day, I had about 15 entries in our time-tracking software), Chrinfinity and I take a break and we gossip about local fandom stuff for 5-10 minutes.

My day is divided into four 75 minute blocks of time, with a 45 minute break halfway through. I find it pretty easy getting through each 75 miniute block (or class) because it goes pretty fast. I have new students every 75 minutes, so that keeps the day interesting. Then I have lunch to look foward to, chatting and eating with my fellow English teachers. One of the 75 minutes chunks of time, I don't have students, and I can spend the time here if I want to, or listening to my iPod while I do some marking, etc.

My day goes super fast! :techman: And my students always manage to entertain me, whether they mean to be funny or not

That's one thing I'm looking forward to about being a teacher. It's not boring. I've always said I do not want a 9-5 job where I see only myself and one other co-worker. Your day as a teacher is much more active but it also allows you time to have a life outside of work.

I bite down, is thankful that at least the weather doesn't suck (because usually I work outside so I can't do much if it's terrible), and remember that even though it's often really really really boring, if I keep working some day I might at least be able to buy me that car. You know in like 2030 at this rate. Or hey, who knows, maybe people will stop panicking about "the economy" and I'll actually be able to seek a job in the field I want to work in.

I'm really not a fan of email; I hate it when I have even 5-10 unchecked emails by the end of the day and have to quickly go through them before putting work to bed. You have more patience than I!

PocketTanks and Tim Hortons - thank God there is one right in the caf!

Amuse someone who's feeling too lazy to Google - what's a PocketTank?
