Hirogen would be good. Jem'Hadar... if they have women Jem'Hadar that would be a statement on progress within the Dominion or what descended from it.
I prefer that she play a character with less makeup, after how much makeup she had to put on as L'Rell.
I prefer that she'd be a new race if not Human. Or, maybe a real life alien race, like the Tall Whites.

Thanks to time crystals, he could still be Tanovic. I'm of the mind that he did all of his growing up in a different time and spent a lot of his life in whatever time period he felt like, including the 32nd Century.
The advanced technology might be what makes the rest of the Empire afraid to go to Boreth and challenge the likes of him. To them it's something mystical that they don't understand. And probably has been since the times of Kahless.
How about Number One? They've taken pages from the novelverse before, and in New Frontier she's basically an immortal Highlander named Morgan Primus.

How about no familiar characters.
Really tall races often seem to end up in positions of servitude in Trek. (Lwaxana's servant, Zek's servant, Brunt's servant, etc.)
I think it should be revealed that Nostradamus was from the 32nd Century. Not a familiar Star Trek character but a familiar historical prophet.
There was a novel in the 80's where they met a wizard who experienced the flow of time backward. I think it may have been Merlin. I'm totally down for more batshit crazy stuff like that.
