And in many Peter David "New Frontier" novels, culminating in the wonderful "Stone and Anvil", the galaxy's only sentient Mugato is Ensign Janos of the USS Excalibur. (Janos Prohaska created the suit for TOS and performed in it.)

^ I agree with that recomendation. They aren't a 2 parter or anything, but it'll do you good to watch Errand of Mercy prior to A Private Little War.

I disagree. The Ensign Janos storyline was excellent! "New Frontier: Stone and Anvil" is one of my favourite ST novels.

A sentient Mugato? I dunno... seems a tad bit ridiculous. But I trust Peter David's judgement. To me, his name is synonymous with quality.

"A Private Little War" is correct! A great episode from TOS.
