What Enterprise is the better design ?

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

The swept back pylons give the refit an unnessecary "streamlined" look (IMHO).

I liked those because they made the engines seem more solidly mounted, rather than the stick at one end.

Well, the images aren't ideal (somehow the refit looks more like an AMT kit in that shot, with overdeveloped panel lines), but okay, yeah, this is better than 'who.'

I think the refit is for the most part an elegant refinement of the original design, but it sacrifices the glorious nacelle caps and introduces something clunky with the top of the dorsal, where the strut goes in. Also, the little impulse control cap on top of the dish at the back usually photographs a little toylike, so that is less than ideal.

Having said all that ... the refit (as seen in TMP, and TMP-era pr photos) is still better, because that sumbitch just glows! It seems like a piece of art to me, whereas the original design, which is beautiful in its own way and iconic as all get out, is just slightly (loveably) awkward.

The series ship is like a sibling that you love, but the movie ship is the lovely creature you feel compelled to possess.

Is this a better image?:

Can you guess which one I voted for? :D

As Mr. Griswold Sr. would say, "that's a beaut, Clark!"

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

As good as it is, the refit has a ton of design issues (nacelle caps, bits of "junk" detailing, static lighting.)

NCC-1701. Bytches.

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

I like both versions but I voted for the refit, it's purtier. :bolian:

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

For years the refit was my reigning queen, ever since drooling over her in the theater during that five-minute fly-around in TMP. But there's something to be said for the practical simplicity of the original, pre-refit model. Over time, objectivity has been restored and my first love has returned to her rightful place in my heart; these days, it is models of her that adorn my office, not the refit.

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

I voted for the refit. It has more phaser banks on its saucer section (6 banks of 2 according to blueprints) and is likely to be a more powerful and advanced design overall than its original configuration.

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

I prefer the refit, but I have been developing a love for the original lately.

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

I really like the refit, but I'm surprised it's blowing the original out of the water.

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

Another vote for the refit, just thinking about how that ship looks in TMP gives me a Trekker.

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

Hmm, the refit is probably my favorite Enterprise design.

I like the the original, but not as much.

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

The original looks like a toy.

The refit looks like a starship.

As for which is the best?

Why, this:

Of course!

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

I like both but It's kinda like a beautiful woman who gets good implants. At first they're really nice to look at but then you find yourself missing the natural ones.

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

The refit.

Seeing it was such a thrill (esp with the 15 year wait) that it made me forget how bad the movie was.

Re: Who is the better Enterprise?

I'd have to go with the original. The refit looks amazing on screen, but I find something very pleasing about the lines of the original design.
