What d'you suppose happened to Mordor?

I don't know what happened to Mordor, I tried walking there but of course no one can just walk into Mordor.

Erosion removed all the mountains. When they were gone, there wasn't any distinctive place to call Mordor.

As for the orcs, they were all exterminated. The happy ending of The Lord of the Rings meant a glorious genocide. Fortunately the orcs are in fact all born evil, so unlike exterminating human peoples, this is in fact a good thing.

This kind of fantasy premise has nothing to do with the real world, and therefore nothing to do with real people. There's a reason some people don't care for fantasy on principle.

The Orcs were an artificially created species, bred from captured Elves and genetically altered to suit evil purposes... So yes, they were indeed 'born evil' for what that's worth.

And oddly enough, they call it fantasy because it IS divorced from 'reality'... That's the whole point, so I'm not sure what the point of bringing it up was beyond an opportunity to bash the shocking news that a man born in the 19 th century might have old-fashioned taste in fiction... ;D

Legolas, after slaughtering more of them than even he could count, ended up seeing a spark of goodness in the Orcs and decided to dedicate the remainder of his immortal life to helping the Orcs get in touch with their 'inner elf". He had some marvelous successes but far more abyssmal failures especially among the Uruk-hai.

Yeah. No fun killjoys getting way too wound up over fantasy and how it offends them in their politically motivated thought experiments.

Probably not a lot of fun to have beers with, either.

Since Middle Earth is supposed to be located inside Europe, there are some comparison maps where Mordor is located at the same spot as Turkey. ;)

Please don't be racist.

All evidence indicates that the former Yugoslavia was where Mordor was once located.

I believe the coast of ME was based loosely on France, rotated 90º.

Another name for Númenórë was Atalantë.

Tolkien knew Britain is Atlantis!

All that evil and those vile creatures got even worse over time and in the end it turned into New Jersey.

The plateau of Gorgoroth (the northwestern corner, where Mount Doom and Barad-dur were located) became an uninhabitable wasteland. The larger south and eastern portion, called Nurn, was a more fertile region where Sauron kept his slaves (who produced food for his armies). After the War of the Ring, Aragorn freed the slaves and gave them Nurn as their own land to settle.

The newly renamed Nurnians then went on to have wacky adventures, involving witches, bedroom furniture and Lions with messiah complexes.

It got turned into a popular destination for walking holidays.

(how have I missed this awesome thread until now?!)

The Shire was the area around Oxford so I very much doubt Britain is Numenor. Britain was probably where Arnor was in the Third Age.

Gondor was somewhere in modern Italy.

^ Well, Númenórë was to the west of ME and the west of ME was probably the north of France and we all know what's north of France.

Just sayin' is all.
