What don't you like about Christmas?

In Canada religion and politics are also generally kept separate.

Another thing I don't like about Christmas?

It's over so quickly. :(

You've been going on about it for months! How is that quick? Seriously, I'm not just having a go at you, Christmas is present for a decent part of the year. I don't see anything quick about it!

Since he started his novel length threads like two months ago I'd hate to see what he classes as a 'long' Christmas.

I can't recall the last time anyone in the media or in public conversation talked about the Prime Minister's or provincial Premier's religious beliefs in relation to their position in government. Clear enough for you?

And if you don't have nought attention spam beyond three or four lines thats hardly my problem.

It's nothing to do with attention span, your posts are simple personal ramblings with basically the same meandering content that aren't worth reading.

My point was that you called the holiday short, which it isn't, it's one of the longest if not the longest of the entire year. And yet your posts and attention turned to it long before it even started, to the point your threads faded into oblivion long before the first actual days of the holiday.

For most people this time of year is already tiring and prolonged, it certainly does not need to be dragged out anymore than it is.

I disagree. Christmas is something you can celebrate all year long, or not at all. It all depends on your own personal choices.

I happen to like holidays a lot; and all the commercialism that goes with them! The one thing that I don't look forward to during Christmas is any secret Santa exchange, so I make sure to avoid them and viola! No dislikes!

6 years ago there was a bishop calling quite loudly for the excommunication of Jean Chretien and Paul Martin for their support of same-sex marriage.

Couldn't have gotten that much attention since I don't recall hearing of it and I follow the news quite closely.

As for my "ramblings" thats too bad. A message board is the sharing of views and opinions. If it doesn't suit you then ignore it. I ignore a lot of stuff that doesn't interest me.

You didn't respond to my post, was it because it didn't interest you? You did the same thing in another thread about Christmas where you completely ignored me.

The holiday season itself is long. Christmas lasts only a day, so yes, it is short. Just like New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, Fourth of July, or other holidays and observances, it doesn't last all year long.

He does that to everyone, don't feel singled out. But I wouldn't expect any kind of responce either.

Presents. I barely have enough money for myself, I can't afford to get anyone presents. I only get cards for immediate family, and scrounge up something for an annual Yankee Swap among friends from college. That's it.

Well, what do you know? I broke the pattern. I got cards for non-family and I'll be getting my brother an actual present. A bit less shoe-string than last year.

Too many days off. I'm not on salary. If I don't work, I don't get paid.

As in the whole week off this time. I don't go back until 2012. Not that I'm complaing, I work in a call center and would've taken a ton of verbal abuse from the shareholders I have to contact. My New Year's Resolution is find a better job.

It got enough attention, at least in print and online that I could remember it 6 years later. And though he's not PM or a premier, Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi got a lot of attention for becoming the first Muslim mayor of a major Canadian city. I also see frequent swipes at Harper for his perceived religious views in commentary sections of the paper.

I get the feeling that Christmas itself doesn't last long enough, but that's normal for everything. When you love something, and you anticipate it, you wait, and you wait, and you get excited and that excitement builds, and that day comes and *poof* it's all over, before you know it. I love Christmas, and look forward to it every year, and feel a twinge of sadness at it's passing, but all that does is remind me that the events that happen during that time are what makes it so special.

I feel much the same way.

In regards to posts upthread: religion and politics in Canada do get mention in the media, but it's nowhere near the decibel level it seems to get elsewhere like in the States.

I hate taking down the Christmas tree after Christmas because it means its a long wait until the next Christmas.
