what do YOU want trek XI to be?

Having read so many gripes about the coming incarnation of trek by Abrahms - I am curious to know what people actually reasonably expect or want from the film.

I know all i want is a fun time watching the movie - something that hasn't happened for me since ST6...

A good movie.

That's all. I don't have a checklist. I'll know what I like and dislike in the movie after I've seen it.

I'd like a film that respects the spirit shown in the ENTERPRISE "Mirror" episode, and the NEW VOYAGES fan film series, namely, change NOTHING but the faces of the characters. Leave the ship, uniforms, tools/weapons/etc. alone. Let everything look as it did, and move on.

We'll get used to the new faces. If they want to do this movie as part of the original TREK timeline and not change continuity, fine.

Then let them do it that way. Change nothing that came before.

If they want to ADD TO IT, fine, so long as it changes nothing.

Maybe we get to see uniforms worn at a point in time never shown before. Maybe we get to see ship designs never shown before.

Don't change anything that's already been seen, tho'.

ENTERPRISE got away with it on national TV, even putting the "Mirror" versions of the ENT crew in TOS style uniforms. I find it hard to believe J.J. can't do something the TV people did....namely stick with what came before and MAKE it work again.

Canon.

I know, I know - "yawn, another old-skool fan whom the franchise needs to shake off", but Trek as a whole, mostly consistent entity was one of the big things that attracted me to it in the first place. I also came in as a Trekkie through the expanded universe, not directly from the shows themselves.

Well I understand you guys' perspective but I'd say in scifi it is possible to change history (via time travel obviously) and still have it be canon....

my only problem with not redoing TOS era trek in the same 60's style is simply that it doesn't really make sense as a reasonable extrapolation of future technology from our perspective unless we use some story gimmick like alternate timelines or some sort of technological regression that -as far as I know - is not a part of trek canon anyway.

New Voyages is a "success" in terms being a well produced fan work that many people like but it has the luxury of being a freely available labor of love - not a commercial venture mean to make money like the actual franchise must do.

A good movie, something that doesn't feel tedious or condescending.

Lets all acknowledge that there will be visual changes, no doubt - I don't think that constitutes "reboot".

If the rumors are true... and I'm amazed that some can't see how what I'm about to say as obvious, this film from start to end will be "in-continuity". To other wise undermines the jeopardy that this film seems to be built on. Now that's not to say things might not be skewed a bit, that butterfly and all waving its wings. then that butterflies been flapping its wings since "City on the Edge of Forever". Actually whenever the Enterprise first went back into time to Earth.

Star Trek is a verse filled with cracks.

^ Yes. I'm expecting some needed visual changes (for the cinema and HD technology, where cheap costumes made from shower curtains and sets that don't quite touch the studio floor just won't cut it). But I'm hoping that they won't be altering things visually (or storyline-wise) "just because" and to appeal to the 'Star Wars' prequel/nBSG generations. Let's see something other than 'dark and gritty' people!

I just hope that they lose the TNG production and costume design aestheic for the Romulans. Romulan women with long hair please(ala The Enterprise Incident and ST5)! ;)

I want them to get away from the pretentious storytelling of the past 15 years and make Trek fun again.

2 1/2 hrs of great writing, great acting, kickass action, believable and compelling character relationships, a continuation of the Trek mythos/universe building, colorful & crazy aliens, and a modicum of intelligence. That will do nicely, thank you.

I'm going to jump on the same boat as Kegek . All I want is a good movie. Fun, entertaining, some-what thought provoking, and rewatchable. I'm not going to be heart broken if JJ decided to take a few liberties with history. In fact, if they make a good enough movie, I'm very likely to not even notice.

I'm hoping for just about anything that'll cause MattJC to leave this BBS forever, and in utter disgust, thus sparing the rest of us from having to ever endure any more of his knee-jerk proclamations.

Anything other then what is actually being filmed right now.

come on... if you think the current production is bad i'm sure you could think of something worse ;)

A fun, exciting kick ass movie. And if it pisses off some hard core bitter fanboys...the better!

i think i'm with you on that one haha
