What do you want to see in Star Trek Online in the future?

The game desperately needs a death penalty, any kind of death penalty however benign would be better than the near instant respawn that exists currently. As it is there is no risk in this game, it is literally impossible to lose. In fact in many cases it is beneficial to get killed.

Also some sandbox elements would be nice.

I hope there isn't a death penalty. STO doesn't need one. There are still too many bugs in the game for one to be effective. You'd lose many players just on the fact that when they warped into a new system, they were attacked and destroyed by 3 +38 Romulan D'Deridex ships. I've joined "Defend the Sirius Sector" missions only to be attacked upon entering the system by a +38 Negh'Var warship with 3 +18 Birds of Prey.

These issues need to be fixed regardless of whether there is a death penalty or not. In fact, as many others have pointed out, if there was a death penalty, there would be much more outrage about the issues you mentioned, which hopefully, would force Cryptic to fix these problems more promptly than otherwise.

As it is now, no one really cares because you are basically invincible.

I'm doing missions against ships quite a few levels above me. Solo, it is very, very difficult, and I'm fairly good with tactics, having survived many times where others more powerful than I have failed. I do so many solo missions because there aren't enough people around at the time that I get on to play who are doing the same missions. Adding a death penalty would just put me in a position to where I could never play without having someone else on the same mission at the same time, which would just be silly. It's penalty enough that when my ship explodes I start all the way back at the initial mission and have to travel all the way back to where I was, to fight the same 3-5 overpowered ships that now have full health and shields again.

I agree as I'm the same way. I only get to play at around 11 at night, so many missions I play by myself. I don't see why enemy ships heal once you die, either.

Just a note to everyone - there is a quick (and sadly too general IMO) player survey up on the STO website that might be a useful way for players to help improve the game.

I'm not so sure my feedback was specific enough. I'm a lifetimer and still see the need for vast improvements in the gameplay so I selected everything available for the question "What would you like to see most in Star Trek Online (check all that apply)?" Still, everything available in that list, and more, could stand improvement or addition to the game to make it a truly groundbreaking and truly Star Trek experience in my opinion.

Actually, regarding the death penalty, be careful what you wish for (btw. I've seen Cryptic already announced that it will be incorporated in one of the future patches).

For instance I'm not a gamer, and honestly I don't have much time to spend flying around and shooting Klingons in PC game. Now that I finally made it to RA (and invested lot of free time for it) and have some nice ship, I'd hate to loose it just because I made some mistake during gameplay.

Not everybody has time to perfect his/her tactics and spend awfully lot of time training the gameplay.
In case Cryptic implements some severe death penalties, that for sure I'll stay playing for fun in Sirius sector and after one moth get bored and subscription bye bye. I'm sure I'm not alone in this position.

Game rewards are the accomplishment that you can achieve via playing, not "mission without death count".
From my side, I'm happy with death / respawn as it is now.

What I'd like to see in the future-----------------------------------------------------------
  • Cinematic cut scenes (and cinematic intro)
  • more special items (mostly ship bound)
  • more starship consoles
  • new ships / classes
  • new & familiar sectors in Alpha quadrant (Tholia, Ferenginar, Breen...)
  • expanding of the universe (Delta quadrant, Gamma quadrant)
  • Fluidic space campaign
  • more maneuverable cruisers (to get Noble to turn around is just pain)
  • more missions, continuation of story lines
  • LESS BORG (boring and I'm even only getting started in Gamma Orionis)
  • Narada (similar vessel)
  • NX-91001 and other hero ships (somewhat I was expecting that NX-91001 would be leading the battlegroup Omega, not that ugly dreadnaught). Enterprise and captain Data come to my mind....

... not a short list, but well, if I'm to pay month by month, I want something in return

Ditto.

1. The ability to walk around your ship. (ps, how do you sit in the bloody captain's chair????)

2. Sector space travel while in bridge view. Streaming stars on the viewscreen, please.

3. More variety in exploration/first contact missions.

4. Ability to "retrofit" your ship by +1 tiers, ie, fly Defiant/Sovereign/Intrepid class with tier 5 stats.

5. Free to play, but barred from endgame content (ie, can't ding RA1). I would totally do this.

Many things have been said already but my list is:

1. Diplomacy. A thousand times, diplomacy. There needs to be some way to negotiate with your enemies.
2. Ship-board missions. I don't mind that you can't just wander around your ship (although it'd be nice), but so much of televised Star Trek takes place on the ships themselves, there is no reason some missions shouldn't involve a component on your own ship (being boarded, having guests on board, that sort of thing).
3. Android characters, please!
4. Bring back auto-fire in ground combat. Cover would be nice, too.

I'd very much like that.

LESS BORG (boring and I'm even only getting started in Gamma Orionis)

I'd like to see more diversity in endgame content. The opportunity to fight Klingons, Romulans, and Jem'Hadar in addition to Borg, for starters.

More sandbox elements would contribute to the longevity of the game, as well.
