What do you want in the Star Wars Blu-Ray set out next year?

I like the suggestion of having ALL versions of the first three films included in the collection (with the addition of having the sound from the OT remastered) I think that it'd be cool to be able to have all three versions of the film on hand and be able to switch between the three versions whenever you want between viewings and be able to appreciate and enjoy the "evolution" of the films (OT).

Also, I'd like to see some of the finished deleted scenes from the prequels re-incorporated into the movies, particularly some of the "Rebellion" scenes from ROTS. If I have one serious criticism of ROTS, it's that Padme was WOEFULLY underused in ROTS when compared to her more prominent roles in TPM and AOTC. It would be nice to see her being involved in the formation of the rebellion. Plus, I think that it's important for us to see the stirrings of the rebellion against Palpatine. I believe that one of those scenes- the one in Palpatine's office- also hints at Palpatine's awareness about the true nature of Anakin and Padme's relationship. Both of those scenes were included in the abridged novelization of the movie and would seem to me to be rather essential inclusions in the movie.
It might be kinda fun to see the Anakin/Greedo scene from TPM (Anakin starts beating up on Greedo until Qui-Gon pulls him away)
I would also like to see the "hearing/sentencing" scene from AOTC prior to the Arena scene. I haven't seen the AOTC DVD for awhile, so I can't quite remember if that was a scene that was actually produced for the movie or was just stuck into the unabridged novelization of it but that was a good one- that delved more into Dooku's motivations for starting the Separatist movement.

I also just thought of one more thing: I don't know if they want to do a separate release for it or not but I'd love to see a collection of all of the Star Wars Lego "mini-movies" like "Revenge of the Brick" and "The Search for R2-D2" that have been made. Those are always fun to watch.

There was a deleted scene of that nature, but from your description it sounds as if the novel went into more detail.

The original theatrical cuts for all three movies and an apology message from George Lucas for ever messing with them in the first place.

...I can dream, can't I?

Why should he apologise? Some of the restoration work is fantastic. Have you seen the original 1977 film print? It was falling to pieces.

Like so many I'd like to see the original versions remastered in hd.
No Greedo shooting first.
No Jedi Rock.
No Hayden Christiansen.

Its a pipe dream, but with the tech behind bluray, it would be nice to have more than one, if not all, versions of the film on the discs (ie 1977, Special Edition, dvd versions).

Yeah, me too. There's no excuse for not including the original version, and there's plenty of interest in alternate versions as well. In my opinion the 5-disc Blade Runner that included nearly every known version of the film is the gold standard.

Also, I'd like Lucas to release a Blu-Ray that doesn't require you to buy a NEW PLAYER in order to play. His issue of THX-1138 required an SD or Flash drive memory expansion and my particular Blu-Ray doesn't have inputs for such things. I lost a bit of trust because of this (luckily I got a full refund at Best Buy for the Blu-Ray) so I'm half expecting the Star Wars Blu Ray releases to be unplayable on my machine, too. And as one who really wants to reduce the amount of e-waste I produce, buying a new blu-ray player every year (mine is less than a year old) is not something I want to do.

Because what he did was not restoration, but revision. There is a huge quantifiable difference between the two terms. This also applies to Star Trek TOS Remastered. It's one thing to use digital techniques to restore lost/damaged images, and at the end of the day you end up with a version of the original that combines original elements with recreated elements. That's what restoration is. It's not deciding to change plot points, put planets in the sky where they shouldn't be, add stupid background gags (like the Jawa falling off his mount in the new version of ANH), bow to political correctness by having Han shoot in self-defence, etc. Or erasing a respected veteran stage actor - Sebestian Shaw - from the final scene of Return of the Jedi and replacing him with Hayden Christiensen. So, yeah, Lucas has a lot to apologize for. That and the fact that if it weren't for him the term "XXXX raped my childhood" might never have been coined.

Because he didn't stop there and he screwed up some great films (and Return of the Jedi ;)) in the process.

And if that was all Lucas did, I wouldn't have a problem. New CGI effects and changing Han Solo's entire character arc go way beyond that.

Have you seen the original 1977 film print?
Not since 1997 or so. Hence my problem.

Wait, Solo's entire character arc? I must have missed that alteration.

From cold-blooded killer to telling Leia he won't get between her and Luke. The Greedo scene change just makes him into somebody shooting in self defense. It's not a major thing, but the revision does far more harm than the original intent of the scene ever did.

All I hope for is that George Lucas makes as many changes to his masterworks as possible so as to fulfill his vision. More CGI creatures in every scene to make that galaxy feel more lively. Also I hope he adds some dialogue about midichlorians to the original trilogy to improve continuity. And a statue of Senator Jar Jar Binks should probably make an appearance.

Only so long as it's accompanied by a statue of Vader cutting his head off in his first act as a Sith Lord.

In response to your adding dialogue comments, I actually agree with that. There needs to be several exposition scenes added to the movies so they're not just one pulse-pounding action scene after another. It's exposition that makes a story, not never-ending special effects.

Oh, but it is a major thing. In the original version of Star Wars, Solo goes from A to Z, from a ruthless mercenary/smuggler to a hero of the Rebel Alliance. From a guy who who is only in it for himself to a guy who goes back to help Luke blow up the Death Star just because it's the right thing to do.

In the revised, "Shooting at the same time as Greedo" version, it's more like he goes from R to Z.

Doth I sense a wee smidge of sarcasm in thy post?

What? Who doesn't believe in the man's evolving vision?!? He just keeps making Star Wars better and better with every passing moment.

Has he been knighted yet for his constant updating and fixing of what were once horribly broken movies doomed to obscurity?

Hear hear!

I'm way overdue for a re-read of the movie novelizations, but I seem to recall the ANH one had some mention about scientists trying to pin down some sort of explanation for the Force, so it's not like the midichlorians came out of nowhere.

Now that I bring it up, I think I'd rather have annotated versions of all six movie novelizations before any Bluray versions.
