What do you want in the Star Wars Blu-Ray set out next year?

Not to rain on this thread but all I want from Star Wars is for it to go away. Watching Lucas flog that horse is really getting uncomfortable.

- all deleted scenes (possibly the option to include them seamlessly into the movie)

- a good commentary by Lucas, maybe the actors etc to reveal some more about their thoughts and aspirations

- the original, untampered versions of the original trilogy (very unlikely)

- Jesus George.. just make Han shoot first again! ;)

Theatrical ESB. No shriek as Luke drops down in Cloud City. No wimpy "tell my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival" by someone who's clearly not James Earl Jones. No pacing issues with "new" scenes of Vader flying into his star destroyer. No superfluous robots in the background.

I've only seen the 2004 DVDs once; I forgot all this crap was even in it! LOL

The "Luke shriek" is not on the 2004 TESB DVD.

The original versions. I'll Netflix the set if not. Not even gonna get angry about it anymore, it just is what it is.

I want them to include ALL the tone poems for The Phantom Menace. I don't know why all of them weren't included in the DVD release. I know people hate Jar Jar, but his was pretty nice.

For the OT
Theatrical (35 and 70mm versions with their corresponding soundtracks) and SE editions. All properly remastered and properly color corrected. Unlike the 2004 DVD set. (Blue corridors in the Tantive IV?, Green lightsaber on the Falcon? Vader with a pink saber?) I hope they used the fan made Adywan Revisited version as an example of proper color correction. Hell, I would hope that they would include the Adywan version as an example of a really well done fan edit.

Every scrap of deleted footage that they can find. Making of's from the 1970's/80's. Remastered proper widescreen trailers (if the trailers were ever in widescreen in the first place.) TV commercials. All of the content from the DVD extras. Fully remastered version of the Star Wars Christmas special Audition footage, Test footage (both practical and sfx) Isolated musical score for every version of all 3 movies. All of the Star Wars radio plays. Both on the Blu-Ray and as a code for downloadable mp3/audiobook versions. Posters/Ads/Photos etc. Pretty much everything in the LucasArts vaults that they have for the OT.

For the SE.

6 Hours of Lucas being raped by Jar Jar Binks. Lucas would be forced to watch the Xmas special on repeat while Jar Jar is shouting Oy Oy, Isa Lucas gonna die?

Seriously though. I don't know what else they could add to the PT that would make me interested. More deleted scenes. Branching versions that include the deleted subplots (Ep 3 would be really long in that case) Isolated scores. The tone poems mentioned earlier.

All I really want is a version of ROTJ without Hayden Christiensen's ghost CGI'ed in at the end.

esus George.. just make Han shoot first again!

How many times must I say this? Han does not shoot first. That implies that someone else shoots after he does. No. Han shoots, and only Han shoots.

If Lucas had the guts, I'd love to see him call Red Letter Media so that those comprehensive reviews can be bonus documentaries on the prequel Blu-Rays.

I can dream.

As long as the Blu-Rays have the special edition versions of all films, I'll be happy. The SE's are all that I enjoy. If anything else is included (like the theatrical cuts, commentaries, deleted scenes, etc.), I don't have a problem with that; I just want the SE's to at least be there.

I know this is considered to be the 'incorrect' opinion amongst SW purists. I've heard that all before. And I say, so what.

Lucas should let Red Letter Media record commentaries right there at Skywalker Sound for this release along with his original.

I wish Lucas had the guts to put the viewpoints of crazed haters on the DVD just like any director would do.

In the DVD for Phantom Menace, there's a documentary called The Beginning which is fairly candid about problems with the film-the editing, Jake Lloyd, etc.... but that's about as far as it gets. The other two prequels special features mainly just focus on special FX and storyboarding rather than a look behind the scenes. Plinkett even uses some of The Beginning's footage to make several of his points regarding the film.

As for what should be on the set, There was an interesting 1983 documentary called "From Star Wars to Jedi" which came out on VHS but never got a DVD release. It's mainly concerned with Jedi's production but has some cool info on the other films as well. There are some cheesy moments (Such as a muppet-like showcase of the Jabba's palace creations, and an animatic for the bike chase using dolls), but it's interesting to see Lucas more in his prime and concerned more with story than effects. We were hoping this was the case of course in 1999, especially when Lucas released the 'teaser' for Episode I: "Plot does matter" mocking Godzilla. Funny thing is, TPM is often compared to Godzilla as far as overmarketed dissiapointments go.

I have that documentary on video - I love the part where Salacious Crumb says, "We're all going to England!!!"

I just watched that. It's still on the www.starwars.com website under Episode 2's video collection.

It's split into three parts, but the site only lists the first two. You just have to type in the url the next number in the sequence to see the rest of it (I think it's 67, parts 1 and 2 are 65 and 66).

Wow, not sure I'd ever seen that one before, that is nice. Really helps prove my point I've long held that the idea of Jar Jar wasn't terrible, just the execution.

The original, theatrical, versions of the film remastered for the new media with no CG bullshit added in. Put this in and I'll buy it. Well, I'll consider it.

But if it's just this same bullshit we've gotten the last several times and/or the original versions are the same crappy quality as the previous set? Fuck it.

How many times must I say this? Han does not shoot first. That implies that someone else shoots after he does. No. Han shoots, and only Han shoots.

This is being needlessly pedantic.

Han shoots first. That no one gets to shoot second doesn't change the fact that someone still had to shoot first.

^ Yes, me too, basic remastered editions of the theatrical versions with no added scenes or CGI are the only thing I have any interest at all in.
