What Do You Think Of NuTrek? Does It Hold The Standards Of TOS?

Basically what do you all here think of the NuTrek movies. Does it seem like Trek to you and does it hold up to the best episodes and movies of Star Trek. You can focus on any part of the movies, characterizations of the iconic characters, plot etc to make your point.

I will throw my 2 cents in after I have read a few comments.

Anyway, as a lifelong Trekkie who started watching the show back during its original run on NBC, I like the new movies and think that rebooting the franchise was a smart move. Among other things, I really think the new movies capture some of the fun and excitement of the original classic TV series.

But, seriously, does anybody really think that anyone's opinions have changed since the last time this question was poised? We're never going to achieve any sort of consensus here, not matter how different ways the question is phrased.

Anyway, as a lifelong Trekkie who started watching the show back during its original run on NBC, I like the new movies and think that rebooting the franchise was a smart move. Among other things, I really think the new movies capture some of the fun and excitement of the original classic TV series.

But, seriously, does anybody really think that anyone's opinions have changed since the last time this question was poised? We're never going to achieve any sort of consensus here, not matter how different ways the question is phrased.

Many say its captured the fun and excitement of tos but they all forget that its also lost something. Its lost the story. Its become a action fest with little to make us care about the main characters. After watching only the first few episodes of TOS there is already a feeling that the main characters are friends and the viewer comes to care about them. The reboot doesn't have that feeling at all. When Kirk died in STID I didn't really care all that much. Maybe it was the way it was filmed or the out of character Spock screaming "Khaaaaaan" but the scene was not nearly as emotional as Spocks death in TWOK. IF you mean that brought action and adventure back that was never missing form Trek really. I will grant you this the new movies have excellent special effects but the problem is the stories which aren't excellent. Also the characters seem only shadows of what the originals were. That's just my opinion of course.

Which posts have been deleted? Posts don't get deleted with out reason. Only you or the mods can delete them. So I doubt it has to do with being negative towards the films. Plenty of undeleted negative posts about the films in that forum. Why would your's be "special"?

How are they more open? You're going to find a lot of the same people, with the same opinions here as on STXI+ boards. If you want to discuss multiple incarnations of Star Trek, that's what General Trek is for.

Okay, in the spirit of love and delight, since this has been brought up for the 47th time, I will alter my opinion.

I think they're terrific. Fast-paced and action-packed. Loud fist-hitting-jaw noises!! Vengeance-crazed baddies: a delightful, new twist in Star Trek films, that. I love an angsty, conflicted protagonist; and really random love scenes just because it's kewl to see Spock kissing someone with, like, no development over four hours of film.

I'm really disappointed JJ went to work on that other property and I am dreading what Pegg will do with the script. He says adventure and exploration? No, thanks. More vengeance-crazed baddies, please.

I think they're terrific. Fast-paced and action-packed. Loud fist-hitting-jaw noises!! Vengeance-crazed baddies: a delightful, new twist in Star Trek films, that. I love an angsty, conflicted protagonist; and really random love scenes just because it's kewl to see Spock kissing someone with, like, no development over four hours of film.

Actually I am. That was a pretty entertaining post. Thanks Plynch. I also suspect this is your alternate universe(Or "Mirror, Mirror) opinion I would probably agree with your Prime Universe Opinion.

Started out on TOS, loved it and still love it. I also love the new films, and believe they are essentially updated versions of the original series. Not only would Gene Roddenberry be proud, but he'd have added more nearly naked women, keeping Bill Theiss employed from beyond the grave.

But it's clear that you've already made up your mind and, for some reason, are determined to achieve some sort of consensus against the new movies, even if you have to keep posting variations on the same question all over the board until you get the "right" answer from the rest of us.

We get it. The new movies don't work for you. Fair enough.

But it's been six years now. You're not going to change anybody's minds at this late date. It's not like there's a secret hoard of anti-reboot fans hiding in the bushes somewhere, just waiting to be asked the right question in the right forum.

I agree with and endorse everything you say. I particularly like how Kirk's lady-a-thon just kept on trekkin' from Gaila's bed in XI to the cat ladies in XII and hopefully onto Marcus in XIII. I know in my heart that Gene would have liked this too.
