What do you plan to read in 2012?

DS9: Mission Gamma (II-IV) not sure if will tackle this this year or not.
DS9: Unity
DS9: Worlds of Deep Space Nine (I-III) More want to read unity and these books I think so I can more enjoy the DS9 characters in the typhoon pact books I have yet to read.

Enterprise: Romulan War, I and II. Likely hold off on Enterprise books I bet, or near the lower end of the list in terms of Star trek Books.

Likely won't get to all of these this year, but will see how much of a star trek mix of books I do along with star wars and other ones.

I probably really will only get through 20-25 books this year, so some of this will not make the cut for 2012 likely or might find some new ones/others that spark my interest that I already own.

End it with a picture of the night stand next to my bed where I keep the books I want to read the soonest, also partly because I have ran out of room in my book cases..

Pointing out the obvious, but just because a narrative backtracks to an earlier point in time doesn't mean it might not be more enjoyable if seen in the light of later events, and could even be intended to be received that way. You could even argue a fairly significant percentage of TrekLit story ideas rely on that attraction to make their case.

Sometimes there's good reason to tell a story out of order, but it's still important to let people know when the various parts of it take place relative to each other. For instance, the flashback chapters in DTI: Watching the Clock are all headed by indications of when they take place, but that's not an instruction to read them in chronological order before the main story of the novel, because they're specifically meant to be where they are -- the preceding chapters lead into them or they provide information that needs to come out at a certain point in the story. (My upcoming original novel Only Superhuman uses flashback chapters in a similar way.)

Any story is going to be informed by where the writer's mind is at the time it's written. So as a rule, the best way to read the stories in a series is in the order they're published, even if that's out of chronological order, because that's usually the best way to follow the progression of ideas.
