What do you do with Star Trek novels?

I find it hard to believe that Mr. Mack could feel "bullied" by a single reader on an internet forum.

I don't find it hard to believe at all. I don't think you actually do, either, as your "paying public" bit implied: David Mack is posting under his real name here, and in a venue frequented by his customers. You, OTOH, are attacking his reputation while using a pseudonym. Very obviously you are in the power/bully position here.

Timewalker, I would have been more inclined to offer you a "Sorry, my mistake" had you not poisoned the conversation by applying figurative raps on my knuckles with your verbal ruler of self-righteous umbrage.

As for your accusation of "childish nastiness," it's completely unwarranted. I tried to keep this discussion light by responding with a mild joke at my own expense and a link to a funny video whose implied message is, "This isn't as serious as all that." Then you escalated your rhetoric toward me and earned an appropriately more pointed response.

As for the rest of your argument, save it for someone who thinks the country really does need more book-burning. Because as noted above, that person isn't me.

Exactly. Timewalker harangued him over a harmless joke. Instead of just saying to herself, "Well, okay, his sense of humor differs from mine but he obviously means no harm, so I'll leave it at that," she chose to harass the guy. She deserves whatever she gets in response.

Umm, if anybody is still interested in the discussion we were having... it's hard for me to organize my physical Trek books since some are ebooks, and the physical books are all over the house. So the shelves on my Shelfari account are my preferred shelving order.

...

...Um, yeah. So.

A Klingon, a Romulan and a Ferengi walk into a bar...

I'm starting to think we should burn this thread...

Good grief, agreed!

David was clearly making a joke; Timewalker didn't find it funny. That's fine and her right, but it doesn't change the author's "original intent"... it WAS a joke, as most people realised.

He didn't deserve the over-the-top response, but truthfully, this back-and-forth isn't making anybody look great. I think the issue should just be dropped and we all get back to on-topic.

I find hearing about other people's collections very interesting...

If it were possible and the folks that run and operate the Trek BBS would allow it, I'd invite you all to burn it, seeing as I'm the thread starter!

Hey, I just thought of something, how do you all keep track of the Star Trek novels you already have?(Me, myself remember the cover art!)

Sounds like getting married is bad for Trek book collections.

What to do with the books? Keep them! Put them somewhere out of other people's eyes or don't listen to other people moaning about your collections.

Or you could give them to someone who would really appreciate them.

Or you could throw out your bed and use the books as a mattress to sleep on. Can't sleep? Just pull out a book!

Edit: On a completely different note, how about that Shatner Vs. Takei thing eh?

I still have all my Star Trek novels (more than 150) that take up an entire five shelf bookcase (and that's not including all the non-trek books that take up another bookcase and a half!). I don't think I could ever part with these novels; they've given me lots to think about in terms of science and storytelling, and with each one I have memories of reading them and anxiously waiting to find out what happened next (i.e. when I was reading the Destint trilogy and the Voyager re-launch).

To me, these novels are significant and I could never part with them.
