What do you do for a living?

I recognised TUPE as soon as I saw it!

Can you translate? It's something about Transfer Under [something] Employment - I think...anyway they really should have it in America - laying off people just because a company gets bought out really isn't on.

Right now I work in the library of a local middle school. I am not the 'main' librarian, just the clerk, but I enjoy spending time with the students. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts here, I have just been informed that my position will no longer be around next year, so I won't be working after June 2nd.
I will probably go back to substitute teaching. I get paid a bit more per hour and have more flexibility on when and where I would work.

I'm a university professor. I teach and study modern history.

And I'm taking my first sabbatical this year.

Some companies provide partial benefits to part-time employees.

My point was a caution to those looking for actual jobs in this economy, not anything your typical student-looking-for-experience needs to worry about.

I read this article today that reminded me of the discussion from this thread:
College Graduates Scramble For Full-Time Jobs

I think it goes along with what I was saying about how many people aren't finding those real jobs and have to settle for part-time jobs or internships whether they want to or not. Ugh, reading the article just makes me want to cry.
