What did you watch as a child?

We'll reveal a lot about our ages on this one...

Indeed!

Star Trek* -and then role playing down in the 'wilderness' by the creek - with our home made LEGO phasers and tricorders. Aahhh those were the good days! Didn't watch much else, there wasn't much else to watch if I wanted!

My favorite animated shows were Speed Racer, Star Trek and various programs that showed old Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies. My favorite live-action shows were Emergency and reruns of Batman and The Lone Ranger.

I didn't watch a lot of TV as a kid -- we had one only about half the time I was growing up. There are a few shows that really stick in my mind, though:

As a very young child my favorites were Belle and Sebastian, Paddington Bear, and Danger Mouse (and when I was very little I thought Danger Mouse lived in a police call box -- an American police call box looks a lot like a British post box to a four year old, plus, it seemed logical to me that he'd live there because he could get the scoop on what sort of nefarious activity was going down. I remember my grandmother taking me on walks around the city and having to keep a tight hold on me when we neared those call boxes because I wanted to press the button and talk to Danger Mouse through the speaker grille!) I watched TNG, of course, and Doctor Who -- mostly Tom Baker era reruns on PBS and CBC (we used to get that in Seattle). As for cartoons I also really enjoyed Tale Spin.

I loved Cosmos from an early age and one of my first memories is watching that with my dad. I did watch a lot of documentaries as a kid.

Oh, and 21 Jump Street! How could I forget!

^^ We never had Cosmos, but I do remember a UK astronomy show called Space Watch, which captured my imagination way back then.

I also remember "Belle and Sebastian" way before the other Belle and Sebastian were cool. :)

The funny thing about Belle and Sebastian is that while I knew it was one of my favorite cartoons as a child, and it indeed informed a lot of my play (I pretended my stuffed polar bear was a Great White Pyrenees and took it on adventures in the "mountains"), I really had only the vaguest of memories of the show as an adult. I certainly couldn't remember what it was called, and when I described the cartoon to other people no one seemed to have heard of it. It wasn't until many years later, when I was reading about the band and their namesake, that I even remembered the show at all.

Oh, and I loved David the Gnome too.

Funnily enough, I was never a fan of the "other" Belle and Sebastian, but I remembered the animated show very well, mostly for the epic scope of the storyline.

Speaking of French fiction, I also remembered (vaguely) an animated series based on Le Petit Prince a very long time ago. I remember liking it a lot.

Oh, and this French show also had a big impact on me for other obvious reasons (and not just because it gave Channel 4 an excuse to show early morning animated nudity ;)):

I remember that, but I didn't really get into it much, although I did like much of the mythology of that show.
