What did Scotty say? (spoilers?)

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

Your poor virgin ears.

He said there was no reason for it, and he was correct. It stood out like a sore thumb.

It was just as unnecessary as people on a BBS taking the time to type out expletives in their posts. What's the point?

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

Still hearing the following:
"Captain Picard, the gravity well has got us!"
No, no, no, Scotty's line is:
"Captain, we're caught in the gravity well. It's got us!"

Hope that clears things up.

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

Even going back to the original TOS, isn't "goddammit" a very Leonard H McCoy expression?

No, the Lord's name was never taken in vain in TOS. Would that have even been allowed on TV in the 60's?

Nope. Even McCoy's supposed "damnit, Jim, I'm a doctor" expression was never actually said in TOS. Under the standards of the time, neither that nor 'gd' would have been allowed on network television. Even Kirk saying 'Let's get the hell out of here' in 'City on the Edge of Forever' was considered pushing the envelope, as evidenced by the fact that they wouldn't use the same word in 'Day of the Dove' when Kirk says 'Go to the devil.'

McCoy does say 'gd' once or twice in the movie series, but that's the only time he uses that word.

It definitely was not a typical thing McCoy said, and I agree that its use was unnecessary in the film. And, offensiveness aside, it seemed very awkwardly placed, almost like they were just trying to find a location in the script to have McCoy use the word and decided to toss it in there. It didn't sound like it flowed naturally at all.

What did Scotty say?

Howdy!

In the scene where Old Spock and New Kirk are introduced to New Scotty, Scotty was introducing himself, when Spock went "Fascinating, you are Montgomery Scott." nuKirk goes "You know him?"

Scotty answers, "Hey, that's me, you are in the right place. Unless there is another hard working, equalling starved Starfleet officer around?" Scotty's little alien companion then says "Me.", which annoys Scotty who goes off on the little alien saying gibberish...........

What I heard was.....
"Getchit, shut up! You doing anythin'. You eat like a bee, and your done."
(Huh?)

Later, inside the ship, Scotty again admonishes his alien companion for sitting on some steps...

"Get off of there! It's all climbing for you."

WTF? I have reseen that clip probably twenty times, and it does not make any sense whatsoever. Scotty didn't like his "little buddy" for some odd reason.

Is there a place online where I can read the script?

Re: What did Scotty say?

Another thing too I noticed,

did Scotty say "Captain Picard?" I saw the movie again yesterday and during the initial meeting of Scotty, Kirk, and Old Spock I could of sworn he said something like that.

Re: What did Scotty say?

Scotty tells the little alien "you could eat a bean and you'd be full" or something very similar.

Re: What did Scotty say?

I believe it was "Ya eat nothing! Ya eat, like, a bean and you're done for the week!"

Re: What did Scotty say?

Yes it was "bean". Is this really what this thread is about?

From what I could make out from their relationship it was similar to an owner and his pet. He likes to climb about all the time and Scotty continually needs to keep an eye on him and tell him to get down from climbing all the time same way as you might keep shouting at your pet dog to get off the couch.
The whole "bean" dialogue is because the little guy can survive on limited food whereas Scotty is starving and hasn't been eating enough so I can understand the frustration in his voice.

Re: What did Scotty say?

Yeah, they used the starving-officer thing as a little device to include Keenser in the exposition, calculated to introduce Keenser as a starfleet officer. Whether he could eat a bean or not was just beside the point.

It's actually not a bad topic, because the dialog did have a purpose.

"Getchit, shut up! You doing anythin'. You eat like a bee, and your done."
(Huh?)
He says "Get tae f...shut up! You don't eat anything! You could eat, like, a bean - and you're done!"

"Get tae f..." is "Get tae fuck" meaning "Fuck off!" in the parlance of the Scotchmens.

:D

Re: What did Scotty say?

I guess this goes to show that Simon Pegg can rock a pretty over-the-top Scottish accent when he wants to.

Oh yeah, that's the stuff. :D
I love Simon Pegg's Scotty. Oh, and I love Keenser!

I heard that too, but he really says, "Captain we're caught in a gravity well".
