What did Scotty say? (spoilers?)

I'm probably just smoking crack or something, but in that last sequence wherein Scotty's trying to get the ship away from the black hole, it sounded to me as though Scotty addressed Kirk as "Captain Picard" in a blurred sequence wherein he's running on engineering.

Again, I could just be having auditory hallucinations.

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

Come to think of it, I thought I heard something like that too. Let me um, check ;)

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

It could be either be Pegg's Scottish accent, another "My name is James Siberius Kirk" moment where I'm hearing something that's not actually there, or Pegg did indeed call Kirk "Captain Picard".

I've just watched it back again, and yes, it does very much sound like there's one hell of a blooper in there.

And on the "James Siberius Kirk" moment, in the actual film there was no hint of the kid saying Siberius. Anyone think JJ got the hint and got the kid back to do a redub, or was the sound on the trailer just a bit dodgy?

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

Well, there was some dodgy sound there on the trailer - a bit of a crackle on the sound track, among other things. And the police officer's dialogue and delivery are completely different in the film as well.

That's true. Had forgotten that. Also, Urban's line in the trailer, "We've no Captain and no first officer to replace", became "We've no goddamn Captain and no first officer to replace" in the movie.

Actually it's no goddamn first officer.

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

I hated the inclusion of that word, made me cringe, there was no reason for it, for me, that one word lessened the movie due to its nature, I must protest its use.

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

Yeah and "James T. Kirk was a great man, but that was another life." became the more akward and less snappy "James T. Kirk was considered to be a great man. He went on to captain the USS Enterprise, but that was another life."

OK, OK, Mr Pernickity.

Anyway, back on topic. Do we think Pegg calls Kirk "Captain Picard" or not? I think it's a definite strong maybe, but the jury will probably stay out.

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

Still hearing the following:
"Kirk to Engineering, get us out of here Scotty..."
"You bet your ass Captain!"
(pause)
"Captain Picard, the gravity well has got us!"
"Go to maximum warp, push it!"
"I'm giving her all she's got Captain!"

Clearly it's not 'Picard' though...maybe he meant "Siberius"? :)

thats the line that grabbed a lot of people in the trailer, shame they couldn't keep it like it was.

Even going back to the original TOS, isn't "goddammit" a very Leonard H McCoy expression? I thought it served the purpose of further cementing Urban's wonderful take on the character. I was sitting there in the cinema, and after a while I started to see and hear the great DeForest Kelley. Urban was that good.

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

I just re-watched the scene and didn't hear "Captain Picard" anywhere.

So, that's one point in the "yes" column. :techman:

Re: Did Scotty yell out "Captain Picard"? [spoilers]

Okay, so I'm not crazy. Well, at least not about this. :rommie:

I thought I heard him say "Captain Picard", too, at some point. But, I also recall thinking in the theater, "Oh, it must just be the accent; he must've said __________."

Only, now I can't recall what it was I thought he'd said instead.

It's hell to get old and senile. :p

In any event, I can't imagine them possibly leaving a gaff like that in the final film, assuming the line was ever spoken at all.

For me, it is the worse cursing you can do, "damning" God is a very evil thing, so I do protest it, and it was unnecessary.

That's the only one I have a problem with though in an otherwise great movie.

It's entirely possible no one noticed. After all, that's why films have gaffes in them.

It could also be that Pegg intentionally said "Picard" or something that sounded like it as a joke, and to see if we'd notice.
