What classic album would make a decent film?

Classic album as a film?

Well, it's gotta be Dark Side of the Moon! Oh wait... it already is.

JEFF WAYNE'S "WAR OF THE WORLDS"!!!!!

Sorry... I don't usually scream, but I couldn't believe that no one had mentioned this one. Of course, the film must utilize the album as the soundtrack, otherwise what's the point?

Also, almost any Alan Parson's albums would make great films, as well as Rick Wakeman's pre-born-again works.

There's been a CGI movie version of this in the works since 2004, and it was slated for a 2007 release, but as best as anyone can tell it's still in production. Some stills and a few of the CGI test models appeared on the official site a while back, but I'm not sure if they're still up or if they're any closer to an actual release date.

I'm gonna throw an odd one out there... dunno if anyone knows this one:

Ben Folds Five - The Autobiography of Reinhold Messner

Led Zeppelin IV
American Idiot- Green Day
Scenes From A Memory- Dream Theater
OK Computer- Radiohead
Black Holes And Revelations- Muse
Operation Mindcrime & Operation Mindcrime II- Queensryche

Other candidates:

King's X: Gretchen Goes to Nebraska (would be awesome!)
King's X: faith hope love
Savatage: Streets: a Rock Opera (this is one of my favorite albums every recorded)
Iron Maiden: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Mr. Bungle (Self Titled)
Thought Industry: Outer Space is Just a Martini Away

Wings - Band On The Run.

Always thought the title track would make a great 80s band caper film.

Interesting point: in Australian record charts, it took over the number one spot from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which would also make a good film, and was followed by Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield.

And people say the Seventies music wasn't good!

I WAS WONDERING THAT, TOO - OF COURSE, YOU'D BE THE ONE TO POINT IT OUT :D

Also:

Eagles Hotel California
Jethro Tull A, Beast and the Broadsword and Under Wraps

I always thought the ELO album "Time" (1981) would make a good film...it has a lot of science fiction ideas running through the songs.

I also agree Jeff Wayne's "War of The Worlds" (concurring with the post above) would be a natural.

"Days of Future Past" by The Moody Blues might make for a good film. I agree any Alan Parson's Project album would make for a good film probably because they're all concept albums. "Medazzaland" by Duran Duran...another possibility. Or the DD spinoff album Arcadia "So Red The Rose" another possibility. "Fragile" by Yes...another one. "Hotel California" by The Eagles...has kind of a cinematic flair to the songs...

There really aren't that many albums that I think would lend themselves to a film...because I think you'd have to start with a concept album and there aren't many/any of those made anymore.

Soap Opera, by the Kinks. It's a rock opera/concept album built around the Prince and the Pauper theme. An everyday Joe, and a rock star, switch places.

Green Day, "American Idiot" could be an angsty Gen X drama/comedy

Oooo, that's a good one. I would love to see how they would portray the saga of St. Jimmy. :techman:
Ask and ye shall receive. From a private news service (so I can't provide a direct link):
GREEN DAY'S last album, "American Idiot", is being adapted into a MUSICAL.

--(Singer) BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG collaborated on the script with (Tony Award-winning stage director) MICHAEL MAYER, who will also direct it.

--The show will follow at least three working class "characters" from "American Idiot". . . including Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy and Whatsername . . . as they, quote, "express their individuality in a mass-media culture."

(--If you don't know, "American Idiot" is a concept album about suburbanites who are striving to create a place for themselves in an oppressive world.)

--The show is scheduled to run from September 4th through October 11th at the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California. (--Select tickets are already available. For information, hit up this link . . .)

--The show will feature all the songs from "American Idiot" . . . as well as a few new ones from Green Day's next album, "21st Century Breakdown", which hits stores on May 15th.

--Billie Joe says, quote, "We'd been thinking of bringing 'American Idiot' to the stage, but knew we needed to find the right partners. After meeting with Michael . . . we knew we'd found the perfect collaborator. [It'll] be terrific, and we're really proud."

Well honestly I've always thought that Alice Cooper could do a movie based on quite a few of his records. Basically I think you can tie in

Welcome to My Nightmare, DaDa, Last Temptation, Brutal Planet, DragonTown, Along Came a Spider and maybe a few other assorted songs as filler - but I think that's PLENTY for at least maybe trilogy.

You could start with Last Temptation with Young Steven, part of DaDa for a slightly older Steven, then take tracks from Brutal Planet and DragonTown, then lead into Welcome to My Nightmare with a bit of Dada, then follow up with Along Came a Spider which would sort of wrap up the story - although who knows what he's got planned for his NEXT CD... so... who knows... but I would say there's enough material to do a good rock opera/musical trilogy that would not only kick some major ass, but showcase the showmanship that IS Alice Cooper. And I would definately cast Alice as the older Steven, the Spider-minded serial killer who kills for love and loves to kill.
