What Changes Would You Have For "Is There In Truth No Beauty?"

I'll just never understand the utter hatred people have for Hillary Clinton. :(

And therein lies the problem we face at election time - people may actually vote for her! Yikes!

Anyhoo -

Were any of the season three soundtracks ever released on CD?

Yes, I definitely have a CD with this episode's music on it.

At the end of the episode, when the Medusan and Miranda beam down, Kirk remains in the transporter room

Or Kirk just turned his back while the transport took place.

Spock's putting on of the visor was more... ceremonial.

My take on this is that Kirk could simply have closed his eyes until after the transporter finished. Spock needed the visor because his eyes had to be open to operate the transporter.

Sounds cool, can't wait to see a screenshot of that new ship (and work it into Memory Alpha).
So, was the Medusan homeworld completely removed from that shot, and we just see the ship and the Medusan sun or is the planet also seen somewhere in the background?

Jörg

Yup, no more planet at the end ... just a spanking new ship and a sweet looking backing away maneuver by the Enterprise accompanied by a turn and a flyoff into the sunset...kinda. All in all the closing shot was pretty nice considering the disappointments of the TOS-R these past few weeks.

Yes, god-forbid someone vote Democrat in a democracy!

I don't want to turn my off-topic comment into a political debate because I don't endorse her, but like I said, I just don't understand the pure hatred some people have for her, which sometimes borders on inhumane. Like some people I see who go around claiming that if she was raped and killed, they'd have no actual qualms about it, in fact they would even celebrate. And these people do exist and it isn't just one person. Not saying you guys are in the same league. This isn't directed at you, but the photoshop image simply reminded me of this observation. I don't like George W. Bush, but I don't hate him either. I'd smile and cheer if he resigned or was impeached, but not if he was assassinated. I can maybe understand someone hating Bush somewhat flippantly because the in-power decisions he's made effects us all. Same with some NY residents for Clinton. But even then...

And speaking of ships....we finally get a new official never-before-seen TOS era Federation Starfleet ship! The 23rd century successor to the old Daedalus class. It was small, so when this ship came really close to the Enterprise, it made the Constitution class starship seem majestically enormous.

OTOH, the window rows on her spherical hull made her look fairly big, perhaps half the size of Kirk's ship. Or then the Medusans indeed are sized just as pictured in this thread...

If all the Federation ships of the time were represented on a chess board, this new ship would undoubtedly be one of many pawns.

That's so sweet. Too bad the single Trekmovie.com cap doesn't tell much yet. Did we actually see that this ship sat in front of Kirk's and below, or could she have been on the same level and farther away (and thus bigger)?

Also, do we get close enough a look that we could see red Starfleet stripes and yellow bananas on the nacelle sides?

No, I just meant god forbind someone vote for HER! Don't generalize my specificity.

Bit of an overreaction to her face pasted into a Trek image, don'tcha think?

Timo,

You definitely see the red stripes but no yellow bananas and no registry number within the stripe like on the Enterprise nacelles. The feeling was also one that she was in fact below Kirk's and in front. The sense was that if the Enterprise had moved forward a little more the primary hull would be hanging over the ship like a roof.

I wonder if the lack of a registry number indicates it is non-starfleet military (diplomatic corps maybe?) or simply a private vessel. In the real world we all know it is due to Okuda not wanting to stir up a registry number hornet's nest among TREK cannonistas.

I wouldn't vote for her, but I don't see a problem with someone voting for her based on personal candidate compatibility.

Not at all. I got the joke and smiled. Once again, I wasn't in any way knocking you or those who joined in. For all I know, you guys might have simply thought she was ugly. The image reminded me of an observation in trend that I've been noticing. I was also hoping someone would explain the hate certain people have towards her, which sometimes borders on silly. Like if there was a genocide she was responsible for in the past.

I'm glad we finally have a Medusan ship in the episode now. And an interesting design to boot. Like a cross between a 22nd century Daedalus design and an Antares cargo/science ship.

In the real world we all know it is due to Okuda not wanting to stir up a registry number hornet's nest among TREK cannonistas.
Then why did he put that thrice-darned NCC-501 on the Antares? :p

The Medusan design is a good candidate for what I'd like to see more of: Federation design built out of Federation components by Federation engineers who nevertheless weren't Earth humans with Earth sense of aesthetics...

Timo Saloniemi

Agreed. Something to show that the vast diversity of races within the Federation can still combine talents and resources to create vessels and technology that are still recognizably Federation and accessible to all species.

i always thought the void would work better as some type of null space a ship could fall into if something went wrong with the warp drive. i dont like the edge barrier aspect.
bit over all one of my fav episodes and i also liked that ending shot of the two ships and enterprise back away and heading off.

I suppose its a smaller space-time continuum version of, say, the Nekrit Expanse on VOY or the Delphic Expanse on ENT. A void where odd physical properties hold sway and the way out is hard to find.

My take on this is that Kirk could simply have closed his eyes until after the transporter finished. Spock needed the visor because his eyes had to be open to operate the transporter.
That's the same rationalization that I came up with.

^
Agreed.

I just assumed Kirk closed his eyes for a few seconds until the transport sequence was over. But he wanted to be there to wish Miranda and Kollos well and off, so he compromised.
