Hence the completely jacked-up episode "Rogue Planet" in ENTERPRISE. Arguably the worst science in a STAR TREK story in years.
Didn't bother me. They were the 23rd century version of "silent but deadly".brian said:
I'm sick of weapons which seemingly do nothing but still have great consequence.

That's what I was thinking of for the disruptors in "A Taste of Armageddon". If they are indeed sonic, waves strong enough to explode and burn equipment at a distance should create some kind of visual disturbance of the transmission medium (the air in the Eminian building, or *ha ha, as if* the vacuum near Enterprise).

First of all, that's a muzzle flash, not a bullet. So thanks for proving my point.

At least make the "barrel" (fins?) glow or shimmer or whatever to indicate that something rather than nothing is going on.

Agreed. Some sort of wavy distortion like the sonic cannons used by the Geonosians against the Jedi in EPISODE II:ATTACK OF THE CLONES.
This is going well. Let's make TOS more like Star Wars. That's the ticket.Kryton Kryngle said:
Or the shot the stormtroopers used to stun Leia after recording her "...you're my only hope" speech in the remastered version of ANH. That effect worked well, IMO.

NOT.
Can we just let Star Trek be Star Trek, please?
Notice the ambassador still managed to beam down, even though Scotty refused to drop the screens. Not supposed to be able to do that either.
If we had a quasar in our neck of the Milky Way, Galileo himself would have discovered it, it would be so bright. Hell, the Babylonians would have discovered it. But this is all academic. If we had a local quasar, there probably wouldn't be any life on earth because of the radiation it would put out.
