I have almost finished reading A Golden Age by Tahmina Anam. This is a novel that is set in Bangladesh in 1971 during their War of Independence. The novel tells the story of a widow, Rehana and her teenage children Maya (17) and Sohail (19).

I'm a couple hundred pages into the prequel to A fire Upon the Deep; A Deepness in the Sky and eagerly awaiting the sequel, The Children of the Sky.
Just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. What a load of dross, I'm not speaking to the person who recommended it
I thought it was great. Coming home from holiday at Prague airport, virtually every other person had a copy - in various and sundry languages.I'm reading The Visitor - a Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child. Thoroughly enjoying it as I've enjoyed all of them, my favourite being Die Trying, my least favourite being 61 Hours, which I read first.
The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. The first 100 pages or so were really tense, but it's not that great anymore.
I ended up putting it down and not picking it back up again about half way through.
I found it well worth finishing, but then that was the audiobook version read by Ron Perlman.
Started A Game Of Thrones a couple of days ago. Early impression: Excellent, extremely well thought out quasi-medieval story with an eye for character.
yeah, it does slow down quite a bit, but eventually picks back up. i felt it was worth a read.
I'm now onto For Whom the Bell Tolls, the third of the four major Hemingway novels that I plan to read (after this, only The Sun Also Rises remains).
I'm reading Kevin J. Anderson's Enemies & Allies, a Batman/Superman story set during the cold war. Just started today, and so far it's a fun little romp.
I just started Shogun. Have never read it and saw the mini series only once when it originally came out in 1980.
Am about to start Christopher Farnsworth's "The President's Vampire" the sequel to last years' excellent "Blood Oath".

I just finished Call of Cthulhu by HP Lovecraft. Serious recommendation to anybody who loves a good scare or even just a good story. It wasn't as frightening as some of his shorter stories, but it kept the tension pretty well. He wrote some pretty intense stuff; Stephen King has Nothing (yes, with a capital N) on Mr. Lovecraft.
I also wrapped up The Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien, with the help of the accompanying map. It was dreadfully slow for about the first quarter of the book, with the creation of the land and describing every tiny rock in the world, but once it got going, it was going. It's a challenging read, but a great companion piece to The Lord of the Rings.
