What authors (who do not write Trek lit) would you like to write it?

Re: What authors (who do not write Trek lit) would you like to write i

I just found out yesterday that Alistair Reynolds is writing a Doctor Who novel! Surely this means he'd at least consider writing a Trek one, if he's a fan.

That's like Sebastian Faulks writing Bond!

^ Hopefully better than Faulkes writing Bond. I didn't care for Devil May Care (no pun intended) at all. Jeffrey Deaver did a much better job, IMHO.

I'm actually a huge Gaiman fan (have met him twice) but his episode of Babylon 5 was... not good. I think he might suck at writing Trek.

Given how fundamentally different Star Trek's and Babylon 5's creative conceits are -- to say nothing of practical differences, such as budget, season arc structure, and the relative talents of their respective casts -- I'm really not sure that one bad episode of B5 tells us anything about Gaiman's ability to write good Star Trek.

Besides, his Doctor Who episode was amazing.

It was! Do you know if he will be doing more, or other televison? Wasn't there stories of adapting American Gods last year?

American Gods is being adapted as a TV series for HBO by Tom Hanks's production company, yes. Gaiman confirmed as much when he spoke at the National Press Club in DC last summer; he also indicated he would be working on a novelization of "The Doctor's Wife."

Sci, I like your location. I'm waiting for Texas to follow suit but I may need a Vulcan lifetime for that to happen.

Thank you very much. When that passed, it was the first time I found myself feeling truly proud of my adopted state -- normally I identify with the District of Columbia moreso than Maryland proper, since I only live just outside the District.

And I wouldn't worry too much -- I have every confidence that same-sex marriage will be legal in Texas once the Supreme Court eventually rules that it's protected by the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution all the country over. I'd be surprised if that doesn't happen within thirty years. :)

He did "Day of the Dead," right? I liked that one. At the very least, after two and a half years of JMS writing every single script, it was refreshing to hear another authorial voice for a change, another way of writing dialogue and thinking about story and character.
