Excluding Earth, what are currently your top 3 favorite planets in sci-fi and fantasy (be it from literature, films, or TV) and please separately say why, for each fave fictional planet named.

It's fine to name a planet that's from Star Trek movies or TV, but you don't have to.

1. Discworld - I love the idea of a disc-shaped world that is carried on the backs of four elephants who are standing on a giant turtle. More importantly, I love the characters that inhabit this world.

2. Coruscant - The capital of the Galactic Republic and Galactic Empire, this giant city houses my all-time favorite villain, Darth Sidious.

3. Miller's Planet - This planet with its black hole inducing time dilation effects blew my mind when I watched Interstellar.

Fav planet, hands down has to be PERN. Dude, do I have to spell it out? It has DRAGONS!

Even though I loved the third world aspects of many of the planets seen in this show, i have to pick Ariel, because it was the only planet in FIREFLY that looked like it was in a sci-fi show.

Avatar's Pandora would round out my top 3. It's beautiful and has mountains floating upside down in the sky!

I'm going with cultures more than actual planets here, so here we go:
* Krypton (we've seen numerous versions of the planet and its society over the years, but my personal favorites are DCEU!Krypton and the Arrowverse!Krypton)

* Altea (we haven't gotten a ton of specifics on the Alteans, at least in Voltron Legendary Defender, but what we do know about them makes them and their planet infinitely fascinating)

* Naboo (as a huge fan of the characters of Padme Amidala and Jar Jar Binks, I absolutely love their native planet and their very disparate, yet interconnected, cultures)

Excellent question to fire the imagination. There's so much choice across the many worlds of many universes, I suppose it depends on the context. I couldn't possibly settle on three without visiting them.

For back packing holidays, where i could travel, soak up the art, culture, history, scenery, totty, and food, my bucket list top three in no particular order:

Romulus
Centauri Prime
Gallifrey

Because of the mysterious past, three I'd like to join on a trowel carrying expedition to dig up some secrets:

Skaro
Altair IV
Kobol

For a city break, maybe Coruscant, Gobotron or Minbar.

Also high on the travel list is Helms Deep, Cair Paravel and the Emerald City.

All during peace time of course.

This one had me sitting and reflecting, looked up and 30 minutes was gone. With so much to choose
from, I think I'll just go with first thoughts:

1. Arrakis/ Dune -- My all time fav series, from dessert to lush to dessert. Talk about climate change...WOW. And the Fremen have spice-orgies!

2.The Guardian Planet -- just the most awesome machine/beig in SF, IMHO

3.Pern-- I too would love to be a Dragonrider!

Excellent thread; makes you think a bit!

Pandora - wild and breathtakingly beautiful.

Gaia - a planet tailor made by it's creator to support human life (sounds familiar :)).

Caprica - kinda dangerous but technologically advanced enough to stay interesting but not too complicated.

Honorable mention to Tomorrowland - looks like so much fun
