What are your TFA viewing plans?

As I told a couple of friends, I wouldn't go on opening night and fight those crowds unless I had a guarantee somebody was going with me at that time of night and we could share the experience. And even then I don't want to deal with that many people at one theater to see a movie.

I don't mind opening night crowds for this sort of movie because they're usually hardcore fans...

December 18th @ 10:00am... Wax for pregaming in the parking lot and an herbal Rice Crispy Treat during the film :D

4:30 pm 3D showing on the 18th. I'm pretty damn pumped, though I'd be more excited still if they were showing the film in a good theatre in standard 2D. No such luck.

On Saturday I have 4 tickets for me, my wife, son, and daughter at Studio Movie Grill.

Have you ever been there before? I ask because I might end up seeing an upcoming movie there ( not SW ), and I've never had the SMG experience. The reviews on Yelp and such are mixed, to put it gently.

It sounds like all the stuff with the waiters bringing people their food, showing up 30 min. before the end of the film to settle the bill, all the talking involved, etc. would be incredibly distracting. Also I've heard the lights don't go down all the way and from internet pics the seats don't look especially comfortable.

If someone doesn't want any food and just wants to see the movie they're showing, is SMG still a good option or would they be better off seeing the movie somewhere else?

I went to see SPECTRE today and I bought Tickets for the XD 3D showing on December 19th at 9:30 AM.

Looking forward to it.

Gonna wait for 2D. Don't want ANYTHING to detract from my 1st viewing.

Also, caramel popcorn and cherry coke. Lots of it.

I'll probably see it on the 17th, a Thursday night. I hope I get a good seat and there's no line-up. The Wormhole is right. Movies don't really sell out anymore but this is Star Wars and it falls around Christmas break so who knows what'll happen. Star Trek Into Darkness was near empty when I saw the first showing but that was Trek.

I haven't felt the need to get a ticket yet.

I think Star Wars might have a bigger following than Star Trek and with all the news and excitment and the fact that it's before Christmas, I have a feeling the lines to get tickets will be exceedingly long. That's why I bought my ticket today, and I wanted to see it in the morning with the full package. The morning might not be as crowded as the evening too.

My local theater has assigned seats now, so at least I don't have to worry about showing up early to get a good seat... not that that was all that difficult before. When I showed up for DOFP there was only one person who had gotten there before me.

Employ the same strategy I did for Avatar. Wait 2 weeks, possibly until January when the kids are back in school. See it during the week. With luck, very few people will be in the theater to distract/annoy with noise and/or phones. It'll be almost like a private screening, and it will be glorious.

I'll read the novelization beforehand.

I'm seeing by myself in IMAX 3D on Friday, 18 December 2015 at 10am Seat J13. Then I will see it with my wife sometime on Saturday, 19 December 2015 in 2D. Just waiting to see if our babysitter has availability that night and then I will purchase tickets. Then I will see it again on Sunday, 20 December 2015 with my boys, ages 7 and 5. Maybe IMAX or RPX, depending on what tickets are available.

I don't know. While I'm sure the midnight showings of the Thursday evening premiere, which ever their plan is for the movie will be a madhouse, I'm pretty certain that it'll otherwise be easy to get into any other screening opening weekend.

In fact, in the past six years, only three movies I've seen in theatres had any kind of significant crowd. Ironically, one was the 3-D screening of Phantom Menace a few years back. The other two were Avatar and STID.

Strangely enough, even though I saw Trek XI on opening day to a near empty theatre, my sister tried the following Tuesday but it was apparently sold out. Honestly, that's the only story since the 90s I've heard about a movie being sold out.

I'm sure I am too late to even try to secure an opening night screening at my local theater, but, my plans are, as soon as possible after opening, to see it in IMAX 3D.

And, if I enjoy it, I will probably try to catch it a few more times.

Somehow, miraculously, I'm going on opening night. I didn't have a snowball's chance in Hell of scoring tix when they first went on sale, but there is a new theater that will be opening here in Tacoma with the release of TFA. The theater started selling tix today, and my roommate scored 8.

Wait a week or so and catch an early morning show, our local cinema will have 10am showings. The trick is avoiding spoilers until then.

I plan on watching it the first Sunday - best time to me is the very first showing on that day. Most families come back from Church, eat, then attend the second show. I get in with no lines and when I leave the theater is packed.

Big question is 2D or 3D. If it is filmed in 3D to begin with I will see it, if it is a post optical tricked into 3D I will save my money.
