What are your opinions regarding Star Trek that are, shall we say, unorthodox?
I’ve always found prequels a struggle.
ENT works for the most part, as does SNW. Generally the Star Wars Prequels work, though damn are they full of misfires and it took a long-running animated series to clean up most of the narrative problems with those films.
To each their own, but a prequel in and of itself isn't a bad concept. It's all in the execution, and that's why I don't care much for Seasons 1 and 2 of DSC.

Andor was an excellent prequel to Rogue One, which was a prequel to A New Hope.
If the only purpose it serves is to fill in the cracks of another story, largely I’m going to be disappointed.
I think where Enterprise gets by, is the amount of time between it and TOS. When they are much closer together, it almost always feels awkward to me. Like SNW and the Prequel trilogy.
Mileage will vary as it always does.

Same. The characters are lacking, aside from occasional moments from not the main characters.
SNW, thankfully, lacks that problem in terms of characters but the stories are more uneven. Prequels are always a delicate balance and seems to hinge on people willing to accept these characters as leading up to the older version. Which the Prequel Trilogy did not, while SNW does kind of.
There's no one size fits all way to do this.
My problem with SNW is it feels like a caricature of TOS. Especially where Spock is concerned.
That's a completely fair take. Spock reminds me far more of my younger self so I'm more open to it.
I just keep reminding myself that Spock in the two TOS Pilots was shouty, more smiley and way more emotional, which fits in with the 2254-2265 time frame in which SNW takes place. Ethan Peck's Spock takes what Nimoy did in that first episode and expands upon it.

They do miss the mark quite often. Usually by tossing in everything and the kitchen sink. (Looking at you Solo) Just tell a good story!!!!

Having just listened to the Going Rogue's podcast's episodes on the problematic production on a few of the sequel movies, which includes coverage on how George screwed her over post-divorce, I don't blame Marcia for staying the hell away.
